"Why Are We Here?"
Where did Unitarian Universalism come from - and where are we headed? Some say that UUism is no longer a religion, but something else entirely. Reflections on how the story of our liberal/progressive religious tradition intertwines with the nation's history, and our role at this pivotal moment.

"Of Mountains and Dragons"
September is a time of crisp days, brilliant colors, and returning energy: a season for new ventures, new semesters and getting ready for the winter that will test us. It is also perhaps a season to strengthen our spirits. What I learned from celebrating Michaelmas.

Ingathering Sunday
Come celebrate the beginning of a new congregational year - everyone is welcome! This all-ages service will include a water ceremony (bring a small amount of water from a special place in your life) and a story about telling stories, featuring the Society's Board members. At the end of the service, we will move out to the front lawn to dedicate the new signboard.

For those planning to attend the memorial service for Kathy Bonilla at 2 p.m. that day, the parade should reach Battery Park between 1:00 and 1:15 and we should have time to get back to the First UU Meeting House before 2 p.m.

Second Saturday Sanctuary City Potluck and Coffeehouse!

The students are back, you can tell - there's no parking!
Leaves tinged with red, hinting autumn is harking
Come gather 'round friends, and join in the scene
At our potluck and coffeehouse, September 14

We share a good meal, right about six
You don't need to hassle, just add to the mix
Bring a hot dish, a salad, dessert, or a stew
If you can, something yummy, to nourish a few

Sign up, if you're psyched, for the open mic
Or sit back and listen, if that's what you'd like
Share a poem, a story, a solo, or song
Tap your feet, clap your hands, or perhaps hum along

All ages are welcome, all talents are relished
It's a pretty sweet scene, I don't think we embellish
Truth be told, there's not much, that you must do
Apart from this one thing: that is, to bring you!

What : Our Monthly FUUSB Potluck and Coffeehouse
Who : Everyone! Friends and family welcome
Where : The Parlors, First UU Society of Burlington
When : Saturday, September 14, 6-8:30 p.m.
