4th Quarter Newsletter (04/01/2026 - 06/30/2026)

β€Š

Greetings!

As we begin a new academic year, I’m proud of how much our department continues to grow while advancing our tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education. From expanding our clinical footprint with new sites, to welcoming 11 new faculty, including two Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) faculty scholars, 9 new residents and 7 new fellows, we are expanding capacity, strengthening our programs, and increasing our impact across the communities we serve.

As alumni and friends of our department, we invite you to join the Nelson Alumni Society as an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and support our trainees. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Society, and we invite all members to join us for the Nelson Alumni Society's 5th Annual Members' Dinner on September 15 (membership and registration required).

Thank you for your support and for the vital role you play in our continued success. Please enjoy the key highlights from the 4th quarter of the academic and fiscal year (FY26) and join me in celebrating our department's achievements.

Warm regards,

Dineo Khabele, MD, FACOG, FACS

Mitchell & Elaine Yanow Professor and Chair

Ultrasound Referral Update

Effective June 15, we updated our first-trimester ultrasound protocol, transitioning from the standard Nuchal Translucency (NT) measurement to a Detailed First-Trimester Ultrasound (DFTU), performed between 12 and 13+6 weeks of gestation. This change aligns with the latest guidance from ACOG and AIUM and is designed to improve diagnostic yield and enable earlier identification of fetal structural anomalies.

Please view the PDF for full details, including ordering instructions and clinical indications.

Thank you for your continued referrals. We truly value our partnership in providing excellent prenatal care to your patients. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
