The 108th stated meeting of Presbytery of the James was held virtually on June 15. Among the worship, greetings, and business that occurred, we

  • Welcomed Rev. David Anderson, honorably retired; Rev. Lynn McClintock, director of pastoral care at Westminster Canterbury, Richmond; and Rev. Laura Sugg, incoming pastor of South Plains Church
  • Heard Rev. Kerra English (Ashland) preach on the life of small churches and their pastors
  • Celebrated the life and ministry of Gordonsville Church, which held its final worship on May 2
  • Recognized the service of Colleen Earp, associate for youth ministry, whose work with POJ will conclude June 30

Thanks to Tuckahoe Church and Lakeside Church for hosting members of the leadership team during the meeting.

Our next meeting is October 16. Please save the date.
Prepare Applications Now for Synod Grants
The deadline for grant applications to the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic is approaching. There are many options for congregations to consider. For example, the Jubilee Fund supports projects of African-American congregations that address clergy recruitment, Christian education, leadership development, youth ministry, and ongoing daycare. The New and Small Church Grant Fund awards up to $5,000 to qualifying churches for home mission projects. Applications must be complete before submitting; the synod cannot accept partial or draft submissions. Projects are considered for funding twice each year, with applications due August 1 and February 1.
