The Healthcare Quality "FYI Friday" newsletter is for the regulated community meant to proactively provide tips and reminders about resources and regulations. View previous editions on our website.

If there has not been a change of ownership (CHOW), but the person who normally signs the renewal application changes, the new signer is required to complete an FBI background check.


Failure to complete in a timely manner, may result in the delay of issuing a renewed license. Information regarding background check requirements can be found here.


Applications must signed by the following regarding an LLC or Inc.:

  • The head of the limited liability company
  •  If a corporation, two of its officer


Reminders to renew applications are sent out 60 days prior to the expiration of the facility's license. 

For South Carolina Licensing: All nursing home employees are required to have annual training on the following:

  • Emergency procedures/disaster preparedness
  • Fire response
  • Confidentiality of resident information and Bill of Rights for LTCF


All direct care employees are required to have the following training annual:

  • Contagious and/or Communicable Disease
  • Use of restraints (designated staff)
  • Prevention of Pressure-Related Wounds:
  • Aseptic Techniques


Per our Definition: Annual (Annually) - A time period that requires an activity to be performed at least every twelve to thirteen (12 to 13) months.

The Regulations require that all facilities maintain the Physical Plant (the facility) free of fire hazards or impediments to fire prevention.


Fire hazards include damaged electrical cords, overloaded electrical outlets, missing or broken electrical outlet covers, light fixtures with missing bulbs or covers, smoking in unauthorized areas and clogged clothes dryer lint filters.


Remember to monitor these items on a routine basis and document repairs.
