Perry Buzzard Drop becoming a regional New Year's Eve event

Thousands of people joined Bob the Buzzard to ring in the new year in downtown Perry.

The Has Beens headlined the Second Annual Perry Buzzard Drop New Year's Eve event, following a performance by Jettison Blue.  Organizers expanded the festival to add food vendors, additional restroom facilities and a Buzzard Boogie dance contest.

"The first year organizers did not know whether there was enough interest to make this an annual event," Perry Main Street coordinator Catherine Edgemon said.  "In addition to billboards and regional media coverage, the event received state-wide coverage and has put Perry on the map for places to go on New Year's Eve."

"One man called my office for more information about the Buzzard Drop because he was coming down from Michigan to visit his sister in a nearby town after Christmas," she said.  "He and his sister decided to celebrate in downtown Perry."

Event sponsors included International City Builders,  Jeff Smith Automotive Group,  State Bank, ComSouth, Chick-fil-A of Perry, Perry Holiday Inn Express , O'Neal Insurance,  Rusty's Grill & Bar, ESG, Bibb Distributing Georgia Power, Georgia Web Services,  WBML and Suzy O'Neal.

Buzzard Buddies were Bank of Perry, Perry Downtown Merchants Association, Perfect Pear, Walker Energy Group, New Perry Cleaners, Mary Beth Bass, Darlene McLendon, Creative Signs & Designs, Robins Pacers Running Club and Daisy Patch Flowers.

The City of Perry provided a courtesy shuttle to take home residents within the city limits.

As plans are made for Perry's Third Annual Buzzard Drop, information will be posted at www.perrybuzzarddrop.com.
