Evensong: A Choral Service
with Musicians from Four Local Churches
THIS SUNDAY!
You are invited to a special InterFaith Evensong Service
this Sunday at 4:00pm, here at St. John’s. Participants include the choirs and clergy of St. John’s, Annisquam Village Church, First Congregational Church-Rockport, and Trinity Congregational. This service is a special fundraiser for Cape Ann Arts Alive!
Some of the notable pieces that we will be singing will be: Eternal Father by Gustav Holst, A Farewell (composed by Molly Ijames, text from Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s A Farewell), Psalm 23 by Bobby McFerrin, and My Song is Love Unknown by Donald Busarow.
There will be a lot of hymn singing!
The choir will consist of 38 people accompanied by pipe organ, trumpet, trombone, and tubular bells.
All that is needed to complete the service is your attendance in the pews!
See you Sunday morning at 10:00am
and Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm!
Your Friend, John
Download the Evensong Bulletin, and enjoy a special account of the story of Cape Ann Arts Alive, which began at St. John's Church. This wonderful program aims to build children’s awareness of the geographic, historic and cultural treasures of Cape Ann, assuring them of their own place in her continuing story, and the wide world beyond - through music, theater, art, and engagement with the people of the region.

Prayers of Healing
O God of peace, you have taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be our strength: lift us, we pray, to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God. AMEN
On the 4th Sunday of each month we offer prayers for healing. If you have prayer requests for yourselves; for friends or family or a general prayer, please join us for the laying on of hands. The healing team will greet you at the high altar after you take communion or during the postlude at the prayer desk before the end of the service. We will offer prayers for your special circumstances and hold you and those you love quietly in our hearts. Our healing team is focused on listening, loving, and being an instrument of God’s healing in the world during our prayers.
Remember in the Letter of James (5:14–16a), Jesus calls us to anoint the sick and to pray for one another so that we may all be healed. If you have a pastoral concern, please contact the clergy at (978) 283-1708 or by email: marya@stjohnsgloucester.org.

Support for Asheville
Last week, Marya met a woman visiting our thrift shop who was looking for supplies for the Asheville community where her daughter, Katie Simonetti, lives. The town of Asheville, NC was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Marya reached out to Katie to find out the best way to help. Here is Katie's response:
========================================
Here are links to two of the charities in Asheville that are doing amazing things to help the community: BeLoved Asheville and Manna Foodbank.
Currently it seems that immediate supply needs have been met, so a lot of places are asking for monetary donations now as the cleanup phase gets going and needs shift. It is going to be a very long and hard process to rebuild our city, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with your congregation, please keep Asheville in your thoughts as time passes. Please let people know what a unique, beautiful, creative and thriving community Asheville is; we hope once we rebuild people come back to visit.

Snack Time The kids are back in school, and everyone knows how hungry young folks can get between meals. Proper nutrition keeps the kids' engines going throughout the day, so anything that will boost their energy (especially before doing homework) is helpful. This week, the Open Door would appreciate: granola bars, crackers, breakfast bars, and other healthy snacks. Many thanks.
