Transition Meeting Each Wednesday in October

POJ Teams to Help with Hurricane
Recovery in North Carolina
Teams from the Presbytery of the James will assist with Hurricane Florence recovery in New Bern, North Carolina. The first trip, October 7-14, will involve primarily cleaning out homes and assessing the damage for additional response. A second trip is planned for November 11-16. The effort is led by Brown Pearson , an elder at Southminster Presbyterian Church, who brings 15 years of experience in disaster recovery on the Gulf Coast, West Virginia, and Florida. Shares Update on Haiti
In Haiti, farmers and civil society are demanding social reforms in response to decades-long corruption. Immense frustration at the poor conditions in which Haitians are living has lit a fire in the streets. Cindy Corell , a mission co-worker sponsored by Presbytery of the James, reports on the events that led to the uprising in an article published by the Presbyterian Mission Agency. She also shares actions being taken by FONDAMA (Hands Together Foundation of Haiti), a branch of the Joining Hands network organization with which she works, to eliminate root causes of the country’s dire poverty.

Memorial at Scottsville PC Event
Scottsville Presbyterian invites you to Unveiling Racism: A Way Toward Healing on Sunday, October 14 at 7: 00 p.m. Rev. David Garth will talk about his recent trip to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama. During his visit, he contributed soil from the location of an Albemarle County lynching to the memorial site. His talk will be followed by a presentation by Scottsville leaders on the history of racism in the town with an eye toward community healing.
