Presbytery Approves Rev. Fred Holbrook as Interim General Presbyter/Stated Clerk
At the October 20 stated meeting, Presbytery of the James voted to approve Rev. Fred Holbrook as the interim general presbyter/stated clerk to succeed Rev. Carson Rhyne. Fred will begin a 12-month renewable call on December 1.

100th Stated Meeting Held at Lord Jesus Korean
The 100th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of the James was held on Saturday, October 20. Lord Jesus Korean Church in Richmond provided gracious hospitality and beautiful music from their choir.  Rev. Joshua Andrzejewski shared how a caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly is similar to our redemption through Jesus Christ. We also remembered those who entered the Church Triumphant with the reading of the necrology.

Camp Hanover Hosting Four Meetings about Incorporation Plans
Throughout 2018, the Camp Hanover Ministries Purpose Group has been discussing plans to change Camp Hanover's structure through incorporation. Among other benefits, incorporation secures the future of the camp and helps insulate both the presbytery and the camp from liability risks.
Learn about incorporation at one of four meetings October 30 through November 8. At these meetings, ask questions and contribute your input as this import ant work is undertaken. A history of the project and a draft covenant and financial addendum, articles of incorporation, and bylaws are available on the camp's website.

Volunteers Needed for Disaster Relief Trip to North Carolina
The Disaster Relief Purpose Group is organizing a return trip to New Bern, North Carolina, for November 11-16. The focus of this presbytery-sponsored trip is the rehabilitation of homes that were damaged by Hurricane Florence and by the extensive flooding that followed. Haiti Purpose Group Accepting Applications for February Trip
Join others in the Presbytery of the James to see how God is at work in Haiti, especially through Cindy Corell and our mission partners. This is an incredible opportunity that includes travel to different parts of Haiti, engaging directly with local farmers, sharing in worship, and discerning how we can go deeper in our relationship and shared ministry. Reminder, the last clerk of session training for this year will be held Sunday, November 4 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the POJ office. Learn responsibilities as put forth in the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and other duties clerks of Session might be asked to perform.
Pastors Wanted for Project on Leadership During Personal Crisis

A group at the University of Richmond seeks pastors for a research study/book project on leadership during personal crisis. P articipants must have experienced a personal crisis (such as the death or serious illness of a loved one, personal physical or psychological illness, divorce or relationship break-up) while serving in a leadership role as a pastor.
A Few Spaces Still Available for Ash Grove Women's Retreat

The Ash Grove Women's Retreat, sponsored by Ashland Presbyterian Church, invites women of the Presbytery to join us at Richmond Hill Retreat Center, Richmond, Virginia October 26-27, 2018 for  Digging Deep: Excavating generational trauma and resilience through the healing lenses of faith and hope.  This retreat will be led by Dr. Paula Parker who is an ordained Presbyterian minister and adjunct assistant professor and senior program associate for the Center for Womanist Leadership at Union Presbyterian Seminary. 
Sextuplets Baptized at First Richmond

First Presbyterian Church-Richmond experienced an amazing event on Sunday, October 14 when Rev. Mary Kay Collins baptized sextuplets. The babies' parents were visiting relatives in Northern Virginia when complications of the pregnancy prevented them from returning home to Nigeria.
