Letter from the Board Chair
Dear FabMo Community,

COVID cases in our county are dropping and vaccine administration is ramping up, so everyone is cautiously optimistic that restrictions will loosen soon. But as of March 1, there is no change to the rules limiting capacity at FabMo so our March selection and sale will still be limited to 4 customers at a time, with appointments open one week prior to each event. Thank you for your patience and continued support.

As I've written before, FabMo is governed and managed by a volunteer Board, and we are always on the lookout for good candidates to join. There will be a few openings for January 2022, so there is plenty of time for YOU to learn more about this work and how you might be part of it. You can get an overview at www.fabmo.org/board and I am happy to answer any questions or get you set up to attend a monthly Zoom meeting at board@fabmo.org

Here's hoping that the coming of Spring gets our creative juices flowing!

What is Pink? Lessons Learned from Running a Virtual Store
pink-roses.jpg
I can’t count the times I have now held up a piece of fabric and asked whoever is in the warehouse “what do you call this color?” Trust me when I say that if you ask three people what to call a color you will get four different answers. At least. Is this more of an oatmeal, fawn, sand or biscotti? Maybe latte or macaroon? Pearl? Powder? Parchment?

We don’t get pink very much but when we do, especially passionate discussions ensue. Most people agree on hot pink. That’s the easy part. But as soon as we get into the rose and french rose, sandy or dusty rose, the pink lemonade vs flamingo, the lavender vs lilac discussion things get murky. People do have opinions on things like that. I do, too, to my surprise.

Find out more about Tina's color insights here.
Digital Sales at the FabMo Online Store
A team of volunteers has been working hard for the past 10 months to select, photograph and list a wide range of goods, primarily textiles, for sale in the online store found at www.fabmo.org/store. What began as an effort to make our materials available to you while our doors were completely closed due to COVID has really taken off. There are currently over 700 items listed! These goodies are available for curbside pickup only, Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon, and whenever we are open for selections or sales.

Though shipping these goods is not (yet) possible due to technical and logistical challenges, we do have a smaller number of items listed on eBay which we can ship. To make things easy, you will find a link to our eBay listings when you visit the store (see below). Have a look, and send feedback to digitalsales@fabmo.org.
Order Online to Win!
Place Order #500 in our Online Store to Win

We're almost there—just a bit shy of 500 orders in the FabMo online store. To celebrate the occasion, we're playing a little game. We put together a nice package of 6 yards of beautiful quilting fabric. Just place order number 500 to win it!

There will be only one winner, so if your order number is #00500 you are it! Good luck and thanks for helping us reach this milestone.
No-Sew Bunnies for March
Get ready for spring with this no-sew fabric bunny inspired by the classic washcloth ‘boo-bunnie’. This project is perfect for FabMo’s prefinished square fabric samples. Look for a fabric that has more body than quilting cotton but is not too stiff.

You'll find all the instructions here.
More FabMo Artistry!
A couple more members of the FabMo community share their recent creations with us this month.
Randa Mulford says: "This little quilt features silk samples from my FabMo stash—lots of fun to finally find a way to use them, especially the smaller samples. For the batting, I was able to piece together a couple of scraps that I had left from an earlier project."
Sara Woodhull writes: "I just finished up this fabric tray following the project instructions on the FabMo website. I made it from two 5" squares of fabric, plus some fusible interfacing fleece I had around. I didn't even have to cut those yellow squares because they were already the perfect size!"
We'd love to see photos of your recent creations as well! Just send your contributions (photo plus some background information) to newsletter@fabmo.org.
Meet the Makers
Do you have an inspiring story about FabMo and how it has positively affected your life, business, or non-profit? Tell us about it (preferably with words AND photos) and you may find yourself profiled in our FabMo newsletter. Great for FabMo and great exposure for your company, school, or charity. Contact newsletter@fabmo.org with your story.
Workshops at FabMo!!
A small group has begun to work on resurrecting workshops at FabMo. Hopefully by late spring or early summer we will have something for you to participate in, learn and enjoy.

Please take this brief survey and let us know what most interests you.

If you have a class you could teach on Zoom (preferably under 2 hours long) OR if you would consider being part of the organizing group, please email workshops@fabmo.org.

Be sure to follow FabMo on social media for the latest workshop updates:
Volunteer at FabMo
As always, there are plenty of opportunities this coming month to help us prepare for and stage our monthly events:

The March selection event (3/11-3/13) is just around the corner, and there are shifts for both outside greeters and floor helpers available. For volunteers new to the outside greeter task, we will offer on-the-job training on the point-of-sale system.

Check the March volunteer calendar for many more opportunities.
Easy Shopping FabMo on eBay
News flash! The FabMo store on eBay is now easily accessible through the Store menu on the FabMo web site. Our eBay inventory includes an eclectic mix of patterns, yarn, jewelry, notions, fabric, camping stoves (yes, you read that right), and more. And items you order through our eBay store can be shipped anywhere, so you don't even need to be local to find good stuff and support FabMo.
Update on Private Donations
On February 1, we were bombarded with requests to accept private party donations again, less than 24 hours after we opened up following our three-month hiatus! We are truly glad to see the efforts made by FabMo friends to recycle rather than dump their no longer needed sewing and crafting items, but we will be strongly filtering all requests going forward as our warehouse is super full. Please review the guidelines for acceptable donations listed on the FabMo website and always contact us first at fabrix@fabmo.org before bringing over your no-longer-needed goodies.
Our notions department has been especially impacted by our recent moratorium, but now they are looking forward to receiving appropriate donations, provided they are clean, un-tangled, and have been well-cared for.
What's on Offer for March?
The March monthly sale will feature sewing machines, including a beautiful 1929 Singer and a Baby Lock "Anna".
Anyone who knits or crochets for charity should check out the yarn at FabMo's next event. We have a lot—and you know you always need more yarn!
Notions will be featuring dolls at the March monthly sale. This includes dolls to dress, doll hair and bits of trim for doll dresses.
Tip from the Wallpaper Department
Vinyl wallpaper is a great way to protect a table when you're making a mess with your crafting. FabMo is full of wallpaper, so check it out at our next selection event.
