NRPL True Crime Film Series Continues with Zodiac
Join us on Saturday, October 26, 1:00 pm for the next screening in our True Crime Series. This month we're showing Zodiac (2007). This epic thriller is based on the nonfiction bestseller by Robert Graysmith, a political cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle who became an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified serial killer who terrorized Northern California with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and ‘70s.

Enjoy live music, dazzling choreography, and heartfelt storytelling that bring this revered holiday to life. Borscht Belt Artifacts: Relics from the Catskill Resort Age
Join us on Sunday, November 3, 2:00 pm for a trip back in time with historian Alex Prizgintas as he explores the history of resorts that once existed in the Catskill Mountains. Better known as “The Borscht Belt,” this region was once a premier tourist destination of New York State featuring nearly 1000 hotels and bungalow colonies.
This event will also feature displays of historical artifacts allowing the audience to visibly and tangibly view the region’s past.

Join us for our next Sensory Storytime on Saturday, November 2, 2:00 pm. This program is more interactive and provides built-in time for sensory play, including freedom of movement with more visual aids, gentle action, and sensory experiences. These storytimes are also smaller, reducing the group size and noise level for those with sound sensitivity. This program is inclusive, with interactive opportunities, more playtime, and flexible, joy-filled appreciation of children of all abilities. Ages 2-5

November Brown Bag Book Club: The Trial of Mrs. Rhinelander
Join us on Tuesday, November 12, 12:00 pm for a librarian-led book discussion. Newcomers welcome. This month's book is The Trial of Mrs. Rhinelander by Denny S. Bryce.
The "Trial of Mrs. Rhinelander" refers to the highly publicized annulment case of Alice Jones Rhinelander, a woman of mixed race, against her wealthy white husband, Leonard "Kip" Rhinelander, which took place in New Rochelle, New York, and became a major legal scandal in the 1920s due to its focus on race, class, and the complexities of marriage at the time

Leland Castle
The Library recently acquired The Leland Castle Records collection.
Leland Castle was the centerpiece of the estate of Simeon Leland (1816-1872), a wealthy hotel proprietor of the mid-19 th century. Built in 1857, the castle was designed by the architect William Thomas Beers following the Gothic Revival movement. It was located on “Castle Hill” in the Residence Park neighborhood of New Rochelle overlooking Long Island Sound, and with this frame of reference it was also known as “Castle View.”

Our new Teen Writing Workshop starts Saturday, October 26, 9:30 - 11:00 am. Want to take the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) Youth Writer's challenge? Let us help you with this series of writing workshops. Attend one, two, or all sessions!

Need to destress? Join us each Monday, 4:00 - 5:00 pm, for an exercise in visualization, a calm activity, and a short meditation session. Calming activities include coloring mandala's, listening to calming music, and how to get into a state of relaxation. Our next session is Monday, October 28. Learn more here.
Feeling crafty? Next week (October 28 - November 1, 3:00 pm - closing) is Vinyl Sticker Decoration week. Bring something of your own, or get a free water bottle to decorate (while supplies last.) New Rochelle Art Association Exhibit
The New Rochelle Art Association's 109th juried show is on display in the Lumen Winter Gallery through Saturday, October 26. The show consists of artwork in 9 categories: Acrylic/Oils, Graphics, Fine Crafts, Sculpture, Photography, Watercolor, Mixed Media, Digital Art and Pastels. The NRAA's next show, the Adolph Grant Award Show opens on Monday, October 28.
The New Rochelle Art Association has a long tradition of promoting and supporting artists and the visual arts. Since its informal inception in 1912, the Association has included among its membership many talented and internationally known painters, illustrators and sculptors.

This is a highly technical engineering position with responsibility for the design, planning, installation, operation, configuration and repair of network computing systems. Are you handy, want to help others? Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit that builds and delivers beds to kids who don’t have one. They serve southern Westchester, including children in New Rochelle. They are holding an informational meeting on Saturday, Nov 2, 10:00 -11:00 am at the Scarsdale Library, Room North/South.

A Halloween Adventure Awaits at The Haunt at Wildcliff Mansion
Get ready for a Halloween adventure at Wildcliff Mansion for 10 days in October. Experience Dr. Wildcliff’s haunted estate: explore his eerie laboratory, the restless cathedral and graveyard, and a haunted corn maze. Encounter ghostly figures and nightmarish creatures as you navigate the mansion's labyrinthine halls. All proceeds benefit the Hudson Park Children's Greenhouse.
Details: The haunt is recommended for adults, teens, and children who enjoy haunted houses (under 12 must be accompanied by an adult). No babies or strollers allowed. Timed tickets: $25 per person.
