Aloha! No I have not visited Hawaii, but if you attended last month's SCHMETZneedles FBLive or visited my personal blog, Sew More Stitches, you may remember my most recent quilt project, Aloha Quilt. On Wednesday, September 1st, at noon CST, I will be talking about the finished quilt with a special heirloom touch. In fact, during the FBLive I'll be giving away not only the Everyday Stitches pattern that inspired this quilt, but the 60° ruler and my favorite SCHMETZ Microtex 80/12 needles. As you know, a quilt is not finished until the label is attached. So, yes, the Aloha Quilt is finished.

If you like to explore sewing beyond fabric, paper is a logical step. Create greeting cards, mixed media art pieces, bookmarks, scrapbook pages, and other paper items. Making these types of projects is an inexpensive way to be creative because most, if not all, of the supplies needed may be things that you already have on hand. Keep reading for a few tips you need to know when stitching on paper.

The most popular needle, the Universal, has an eye that is 40% the width of the blade. Really! There are three other needles with larger eyes, the Embroidery and even more pronounced is the elongated eye of the Metallic and Topstitch needles.
Now what does a larger eye mean? There is less friction on the thread as it passes through the eye. Ever sew with a thread that breaks or tends to shred? Guess what, use a needle with a larger eye. If you have old thread or maybe a poor quality thread, use a needle with a larger eye. The thread and needle work hard and fast.
