Vicar Amber's Sunday Message
"They Said No"
by Lisle Gwynn Garrity
A Sanctified Art LLC |
This week, we launch into the “Faces of Our Faith” series with two women (Shiphrah and Puah) that are difficult to measure up to. They show great courage in the face of tyranny, choosing to live into their life-assisting calling as midwives rather than obey the life-ending commands of a king. We may not know what it is like to make such a choice, but their example shows us how faithfulness toward God can mean opposition to the world in order to encourage life rather than destroy it.

Life-Giving God, following You is not always easy to do. Give us faith that endures in the face of evil so we may trust You and live into Your calling for us in this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
How does my church relate to other churches?
There are many ways to answer this question. Locally, we partner with St. Andrew to help with the flourishing of their food distribution ministry. We have utilized our vicar to provide some pulpit supply to local congregations that need support. Some of you may also remember the worships and conversations we have shared in with St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Geneva. Denominationally, the ELCA has full communion partnerships with numerous other protestant denominations (Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians, UCC, and still others). There is always room to grow more fully into the Body of Christ by creating new partnerships, so we will continue to ponder how God continues to lead us in the future.

More opportunities to serve at St. Andrew
Friday afternoon work events scheduled
We're looking for volunteers to help with the work GLC is doing weekly on Fridays at St. Andrew Lutheran Church to help make their Saturday food distributions swift and efficient.
We are so happy to be able to invite more into this work group!  All ages— 5th grade and older— are welcome to sign up. Note: be prepared to work hard as it is often not known what additional work must be done each Friday!  Our first work event is scheduled for June 4.

Masks are required; gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided. New volunteers may sign up for lead slots after they are trained their first 'worker' day.

For more information and to sign up, visit our SignUpGenius page or email Julie with questions.
