The district’s long-range master plan for facilities, “A Framework for Our Future,” identifies some strengths in our facilities, as well as challenges—including projections that point to inadequate classroom space to meet expected enrollment growth at the elementary level in the near future.
We assembled a Community Task Force to review the long-range master plan and other relevant information and make recommendations to administrators and the school board with a vision for what MTSD schools might become in the future.

Why assemble a task force?
The assembly of a task force follows a long-standing practice of engaging the community through ad-hoc committee structures tasked with exploring district-wide issues and strategic planning.
Who are the members of the task force?
What are the members of the task force discussing?
The task force is reviewing and discussing six areas of focus identified in the long-range master plan. The six areas of focus include:
- Enrollment & Growth
- Safety & Security
- Modern Learning Environments
- Maintenance
- Athletics
- Community Use & Recreation
What is important to know about enrollment?
Monitoring student enrollment and estimating future enrollment trends are essential to school planning. The long-range master plan was informed by enrollment projections by the Applied Population Lab (APL) and MDRoffers Consulting. Historical enrollment data, birth trends, the local housing market, residential development and demographic trends impacting enrollment were studied in order to provide enrollment projections for the next 10 years.
In general, the projections indicate that enrollment will remain consistent at the middle and high school levels while significant enrollment growth is projected at the elementary level in the coming years.

What is the decision-making timeline?
What will happen after the task force makes its recommendations?
Upon receiving the recommendations of the task force, district administrators may choose to sponsor a community-wide survey to gather information about broader community priorities regarding school facilities. District administrators will consider the input of the task force, staff, and other stakeholders before making final recommendations to the board. The board of education will consider those recommendations.
How can I stay up-to-date on facilities planning?
The
district website
is a one-stop-shop for facilities planning information, including reports, data, and presentations. We will continue to add content as it becomes available.
Can I share my thoughts or feedback with the task force?
Yes! Community members are invited to share their thoughts now in a brief questionnaire. Watch for other opportunities for community engagement in the coming months.
