AAP to Release Independent Immunization Guidance Amid Federal Uncertainty

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) will roll out updated immunization guidance this fall, reaffirming its commitment to evidence-based recommendations in the best interest of children. The guidance will include updates on flu, RSV, COVID-19, and HPV vaccines, as well as a 2027 immunization schedule. These efforts come amid ongoing disruption within federal advisory groups, prompting the AAP to continue its long-standing role in providing clear, science-driven vaccine guidance.

Measles Cases Surpass 2,000 as Vaccination Gaps Persist

Measles cases in the U.S. have exceeded 2,000, reaching nearly 90% of last year’s record total, with the majority occurring in unvaccinated children and teens. Health experts warn that continued gaps in vaccination coverage may threaten measles elimination status. At the same time, pediatric flu deaths have risen to 179 this season, reinforcing the importance of routine immunizations to protect child health.

Global and Local Efforts Aim to Eliminate Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer, largely caused by HPV, is increasingly preventable through vaccination and routine screening. New public health initiatives and evolving technologies are improving access to care, but gaps in vaccination, screening, and follow-up remain key challenges in the U.S. and globally.

Poll Finds Declining Trust in CDC but Strong Support for Childhood Vaccines

A new national poll shows trust in federal public health agencies has dropped sharply over the past year, particularly among certain demographic groups. Despite this decline, most Americans continue to support childhood vaccinations and school immunization requirements, highlighting a complex landscape of skepticism toward institutions alongside sustained confidence in vaccines.

Vaccine Safety: Examine the Evidence

Vaccines are under constant study. For a vaccine to become part of the AAP Recommended Immunization Schedule, it must be tested in many steps, found safe and be closely monitored. Safety testing begins as soon as a new vaccine is made and clinical trials start. Evidence of safety continues to be gathered for as long as a vaccine is in use.

Rotavirus in Children: Symptoms, Treatment & Why the Vaccine Matters

Rotavirus causes intestinal infections, leading to vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. It's a highly contagious virus that damages the cells of the small intestine. Outbreaks often happen in child care centers and spread through ingestion of contaminated food or water.

How to Protect Children With Weakened Immune Systems Against Infections

While your child is busy playing and learning, their immune system is also at work. It responds to the thousands of germs your child comes across every day. A healthy immune system generally handles many germs well. Vaccines help it learn quickly how to recognize and respond to certain bacteria and viruses that cause serious diseases.
