President Scott D. Miller recently authored an article for Inside Business ("Four ways a construction management partner maximizes value," October 2018) and University Business ("Beyond higher ed buildings," September 2018). He writes a monthly higher education column for The Virginian Pilot ("Seeking balance in cost and services," October 2018), and regularly contributes to College Planning and Management ("Enrollment Management," July/August 2018) and Enrollment Manager ("Innovation, Transformation: A Playbook for Success," September/October 2018). He edits the presidential thought series, President to President ("Where Have All the 'College Kids' Gone? The Changing Face of the Collegiate Student Body," November 2018), and he maintains a daily blog about campus life at prezscottmiller.blogspot.com.

was a panelist in a round-table discussion concerning current issues in volunteer policing at the 2018 Volunteer Law Enforcement Officer's Alliance conference in Washington D.C.
Mort Gamble
spoke to Sandi Billy's Arts Management class on his experiences with a traveling circus in the early 1970s. Previously, he spoke to the class about VWU fundraising and career opportunities in the not-for-profit sector.

presented "Research Instruction and Interlibrary Loan" at the first Southeast Resource Sharing Conference held in Charlotte, N.C. on the campus of UNC-Charlotte.
Audrey Malagon
was an invited panelist for the Arlington, VA League of Women Voters event on election security. She gave a presentation entitled "After the Votes are Cast: Auditing an Election." She also attended the Election Assistance Commission's Election Readiness Summit in Washington, D.C.
Kathy Merlock Jackson
presented a program titled "The Silent Clowns: Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, and Langdon" at the Institute for Learning in Retirement in Virginia Beach.
Lisa Lyon Payne
presented a session on cultivating undergraduate research on media issues at the College Media Association/Associated Collegiate Press convention in Louisville, KY.

- Jeff Toussaint and Kathy Stolley presented "The Escape Room Challenge as a Classroom Exercise."
- Kathy Stolley and Takeyra Collins presented "Connecting Theory to Practice: Service Learning, Sheltering, Skills, and Sociological Imagination
in the 21st Century" (co-authored with Robin Takacs) by invitation in the Second Annual Jay Weinstein Session on the "Use of Theory in Applied and Clinical Sociology."
- Takeyra Collins presented "Nurturing Resilience Within a Family Diabetes Camp."
- Kathy Stolley with Michele Companion (University of Colorado-Colorado Springs) presented an interactive workshop on "Do-It-Yourself Sociology: Norfolk's Downtown." Collaborators on an initial version of this project in spring 2018 were Michael Hall, Kellie Holzer, Joyce Howell, and Craig Wansink.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Bill McConnell, Jayne Sullivan,
and Debra Fitzgerald accompanied VWU education students to the NAS Oceana Air Show. As a part of the airshow's STEM Outdoor Laboratory, VWU students developed and implemented hands-on educational activities highlighting different STEM careers for hundreds of students visiting the air show.

Gabi Martorell
is currently leading a webinar on a series of professional development seminars for psychology faculty for McGraw-Hill, called "Embedding Culture and Diversity in Your Psychology Courses." The 90-minute webinar is attended by 10-15 faculty and hosted on WebEx. Each presentation is followed by a message board where participants can post links/discussion related to the topic.
