On Monday, November 29th Professor Wendy Bach did a talk on her recent book, "Prosecuting Poverty, Criminalizing Care," at the Rapoport Center for Human Rights at the University of Texas School of Law. 

Zack Buck


Professor Zack Buck presented "Solving Hospital Lawsuits "at the 16th Annual Beazley Symposium on Health Care Law and Policy entitled Evolution and Innovation in the Health Care Payment Landscape. The Symposium took place at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in Chicago, IL, on November 11, 2022.


Professor Buck was also interviewed for and quoted in a hospice fraud investigation that was published in the December 5, 2022 issue of The New Yorker. The story, "How Hospice Became a For-Profit Hustle" by Ava Kofman, ran online on November 28, 2022, and examines health care fraud within the hospice industry. It is available here.

 

Professor Buck was also quoted in Ava Kofman’s companion article, "Endgame: How the Visionary Hospice Movement Became a For-Profit Hustle," which was published by ProPublica on November 28, 2022. It is available here.

Sherley Cruz


Professor Sherley Cruz published "Don't Get Lost in Translation!" in the “Management Counsel: Law Practice 101” section of the Knoxville Bar Association’s November 2022 DICTA Magazine. The piece highlights the importance of creating a language access plan and knowing how to work with interpreters.

Professor Joan Heminway was recently featured in Andrew Jennings' Business Scholarship Podcast, where she discussed her forthcoming piece in the Stetson Business Law Review, "Criminal Insider Trading in Personal Networks." The podcast may also be accessed on Apple Podcasts and YouTube.

Professor Brian Krumm participated on an external review committee to evaluate a clinical faculty member and Director of the International Transactions Clinic at the University of Michigan College Of Law for a presumptively renewable 7-year contract November 14th-16th.

Professor Emeritus Dean Rivkin was interviewed by the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League as part of its "In Our Backyard" podcast on the topic of “Defending the Law for Citizens Groups in the Appalachian Region.”

Professor Maurice Stucke's book "How Big-Tech Barons Smash Innovation—and How to Strike Back" (co-authored with Ariel Ezrachi) was recently named to the 2022 Porchlight Business Book Awards Longlist.

Valorie Vojdik


Professor Val Vojdik was an invited panelist at “Law and Religion,” part of the Supreme Court CLE Series at the University of Houston Law Center on Oct. 25, 2022. She spoke about the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, including recent free exercise challenges to state anti-abortion laws. Other panelists included Prof. Seth Chandler (Houston), Prof. Marc DeGiolami (Co-Director, Center for Law and Religion at St. John’s Law School), Emran El-Badawi (Prof. and Director of Middle Eastern Studies, Houston), and Samuel Levine (Prof, and Director of the Jewish Law Institute, Touro University).
