OFFICE OF LIP
Lab Faculty: For those of you who have students planning to graduate this May please note all the Big 10's need to be completed in order to Walk and be conferred on Graduation Day, May 13, 2023. Capstone has new iterations and no longer is a space to finish up Big 10 portfolios.
Submissions of Big 10 are due on APRIL 8, 2023 to be considered for graduation.
We have over 300 submissions due from incoming Capstone students and must have them processed and credited with the Registrar's office. From now until April 16th - Please stay on top of assessments so we can get them all successfully through the process!!
All submissions are to be sent via the new Big 10 submission form.
If any faculty or students need assistance or have any questions we encourage everyone to talk to us virtually during Office Hours:
You can also ask a question via email at big10@collegeunbound.edu.

Dear Lab Faculty,
Over the next many weeks I will be dropping in to 2-3 cohorts per night to gain a wider sense of how cohorts are thriving and how CU can best support you in your role supporting all of our students. My goal is to build on the Exhibition Snapshot survey that most of you filled out (Thank you!). In order to get an even better picture of each faculty’s strengths, desires and thoughts on this shifting program please fill out this additional 8-minute survey about the lab faculty role itself by this upcoming Friday, March 24th.
During each observation, I will be making notes on a google form and will send you my notes within 24 hours. I will reach out beforehand to let you know when I am coming and it will be informal and laid back. Everyone has incredible and different styles, practices, and student needs so I anticipate witnessing a huge variety of brilliance and many ways to implement the CU lab experience. If you have any questions, let me know. I’ve already started this process with some and it has been gratifying all around. Melina and Aubrey may support me in this endeavor as it's so challenging to get to each and every cohort while still facilitating my own. I’m also happy to meet or chat with you afterwards if you have any questions or want to discuss anything. Just jump on my calendly!
I know many of you with graduating folx are starting to feel the push of all that is to happen in the next 7 weeks. It’s an exciting and potentially stressful time. For anyone with capstone students, please make sure you carve out time between now and April 16th (faculty deadline) to assess all of the Big10 from your cohort. CU staff will be trying to lighten your assessment load for those outside of your cohort, but to do that, we need you to keep up with your cohort’s portfolios as they come through and let us know if and when you need support.
Thank you for all you do and who you are!
Peace & best,
Sage

TEACHING & TECH RESOURCES
All Faculty - Key Considerations About Gradebook
- The gradebook only reflects entered grades. This means if a student has submitted a few assignments (and done well) but missed most of the other assignments; their actual grade will not be reflected in the gradebook until 0s are put in.
- To reflect actual grades, faculty do need to put in 0s for missing work. And no, we recognize that isn’t great but we also are seeing students thinking that they are doing much better in a course when 0s are missing.
- Our recommended strategy is to put in 0s for absent assignments no later than 2 weeks after the assignment is due for 8 week courses (3 weeks for 16 week courses).
- In the feedback with the 0, be sure to indicate very clearly if you will accept the assignment late.
- Before adding 0s to update the gradebook, also send a message out to students, giving them a heads up.
- Feel free to use this one:
Greetings Students,
I am about to update the gradebook so that your current standing is accurately reflected in the course. This means that I will need to put in 0s for work that is missing for a week or more.
This doesn’t mean that you have a 0 permanently. This is just a placeholder until you submit the assignment. When you do, I’ll update the grade and provide feedback.
If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact me and we can talk it through.
Thank you!

This semester for Exhibitions, my students reflected on a learning experience of their choosing (the LIP process, the Big 10 process, a course, a text etc) and how that learning experience is impacting their development as an educator. One of my students, Elizabeth Crocker, chose to reflect on what she learned about herself during the process of completing her Immigration Experience LIP. It was beautiful to hear her reflect on her personal growth, her self-confidence in her identity, and how she will bring her full authentic self to her role as an educator.
P.S. I’d love to share clips of other students’ Exhibitions, so please send my way!
