  • Teachers - It is the 15th. Please make sure that your grade books are up to date.

Announcements: This Week

From the Dean’s Office

THANK YOU to all of the support of faculty and staff regarding our all school mass yesterday. In regards to liturgy dress, we had quite a few male students who were dress coded (thank you to those who helped in this regard). Some of our students are struggling with arriving in appropriate dress (sometimes this is due to financial concerns, and other times due to forgetfulness). If you have any dress shoes, belts or ties that can be donated to the Dean’s office in order to help these wayward young men, it would be greatly appreciated.

Club Rush

Club rush was a smashing success. Thank you to all the faculty and staff that participated. More information regarding clubs and moderators to follow.

Club Rush photos below from our resident photographer, Mr. Paul Hamel.

Thank you Paul!

Photocopies

Teachers, whenever possible, please give your photocopy requests to Emily to complete. The printer in the faculty area is available to you, however, it is very loud and disruptive to our colleagues working in that back faculty area. Additionally, the running of large batches of copies prevents others from being able to get printouts when they are needed. As a matter of professional courtesy, please aim to have all large runs of copies be made by Emily in the copy room. Thank you for your cooperation.

MC Alumna: Maddy Domingo '19

On Campus Tuesday, September 19

Maddy Domingo will be returning to campus on Tuesday, September 19 to speak to students of all grade levels in the LMR during lunch (1:05 - 1:35pm). Maddy is a graduate of University of San Diego. She is going to talk specifically about the unique experiences transitioning from MC to college life. She has much to share about the challenges, changes in social life, traveling abroad with Semester at Sea, and what she did to find her own success. She hopes to help fellow Wildcats with their own journeys forward.

Red and Green Dinner-Mark & Dave aka “The Kitchen Crew”

You are all cordially invited to the annual “Red & Green” Back to School Night Dinner in the JPII Student Center on Thursday, September 21. Doors will open at about 4:45pm, and we would like to serve dinner by 5pm. Please sign up here so we know how many will be attending. This is a free dinner for any faculty and staff who would like to attend.

For those new to our school, this family-style dinner consists of pasta (red/tomato and green/pesto), garlic bread, two types of salad, desserts, and beverages. For those who plan to stay at school and prepare presentations and/or would rather not have to deal with getting dinner, we provide it. Some good fellowship, too. Come relax with your MC Family prior to presenting to your student’s parents!

All are invited to bring dessert items (especially our seasoned veterans), but please note that you are NOT required to bring a thing. New teachers especially have enough to deal with that evening! This is truly a special occasion and a fun way for us all to gather together on an important evening for our community. We hope you can make it:)

P.S. Anyone interested in coming by the kitchen to help is certainly welcome but please don’t add any stress to your day, we’ve got you covered!

Rookie Fest: Friday

Please join us for our annual Rookie Fest! After a few weeks of classes under everyone's belt, this is a great way to welcome our new faculty and staff members, referred to fondly as our "Rookies"!

Health & Wholeness: Focus Days Coming to MC

Wednesday, September 27

Following our Duc In Altum school motto, the Counseling Team will provide Focus days to deep dive into topics that inspire virtuous living. Our Marin Catholic family is stronger when we share our stories, honor one another, encourage goodness, and pray together. The Focus Days aim to center our attention on important themes of our human pilgrimage, as we learn alongside the witness of our peers. Over the past few weeks, students have had the opportunity to hear about Saints who embody and exemplify authentic friendships through our daily announcements. Our first focus day is coming up on Wednesday, September 27. Joining us for our first Health & Wholeness Focus Day is Moses Nunez, a former MC alum. Please read his bio to learn more about his journey since graduating from MC.

Picture Information From Dorian

Wednesday, October 4

Picture Retake Day: Wednesday, October 4th

Dorian will be back on campus for picture retakes. Those faculty and staff, who did not have their photo taken yet, please plan to have your picture taken on the 4th.! This is a mass day at school and so liturgy dress is required.

Retreat Opportunity for Adult Children of Divorce or Separation

Are you the adult child of divorce or separation who would like to experience greater freedom in your relationship with God, others, and yourself? Life-Giving Wounds offers both in-person (San Francisco, Nov. 17-19) and online (Thursday evenings starting Sep. 28) retreats. One of our English teachers, Sr. Maria Suso, is a team member on November retreat and wants to invite as many people as she can to go with her! Please see the LGW website and/or contact Sister ([email protected]) for more details.

A New Face on Campus!

Please join the English department in welcoming Izzy Anderson to their team. Izzy will be teaching David O’Hara’s classes while he is out on paternity leave.

T-Shirts & Polos

Thank you to everyone who bought a Friday shirt. We sold 824 shirts! ASB really appreciates your support and can't wait to rock our new shirts with you. The t-shirts are expected to arrive on campus next Friday and we will distribute the following week starting on 9/25.

In your box on Monday, will be this year's Dark Tuesday shirt, a gift from Tim. The size of the shirt is what we have on file for you. If you need to exchange your size, please see Terry Powers and she will do her best to accommodate you.

Counseling Meetings with Freshmen

The Counseling Department is wrapping up meetings with Seniors. Starting next week, counselors will begin to meet with freshmen and call students out of class for 10-15 minute meetings. If a student is taking a quiz/test and cannot go at the time requested, please email the counselor to let them know. Thank you!

Sophomore Retreats (Sept & Nov)

Here are the Fall Sophomore Retreat Rosters for the 9/28-29 and 11/9-10 retreats.

October Kairos

Here is our roster of senior retreatants for the Oct. 24-27th Kairos retreat. We ask our faculty and staff to pray for these students prior to retreat, as well as consider writing letters of love and appreciation to our retreatants and they will receive these as a SURPRISE on retreat. You can turn your letters in to campus ministry or email Renee Ewert at [email protected]. Thank you.

Virtue of the Week (9/11-9/21): FAITH

Faith enables one to know God and all that He has revealed.

Would you like to help foster virtue among our students? The virtue of the week is back! Living a life of virtue enables and prepares us to encounter Jesus Christ more fully, and leads to a deep and lasting happiness. We will be focusing on one specific virtue every two weeks. All faculty and staff are invited to teach, discuss, and model virtue to our students: in the classroom, in counseling meetings, on sports fields, and during school activities. We will be using this guide to develop a common language and help provide practical ways to grow in each virtue. If you would like to participate, please contact Sr. John Michael for more details!

Word of the Week - Next week's word: Abject

Last year we began a school-wide initiative to increase student literacy by focusing on one vocabulary word each week. The selected words are fairly common in texts but may not be part of students' working vocabulary. Use this link to find out more about this week's word, get tips for your home or classroom, and learn how to use this word in a sentence.

Class Spotlight— English 9

The Marin Catholic English Department believes that literature challenges, transforms, and delights. As our freshman students begin their four-year English journey at MC, they are writing literary autobiographies. These literary biographies will be featured in their English Senior Seminar Capstone Projects—the culminating work of their high school English experience. As students reflected on the books that have challenged, transformed, and delighted them from infancy to the present day, our English 9 teachers invited students to embrace our Duc in Altum motto and go deeper by bringing items to share with their classmates inspired by their favorite books. In Ms. Hedstrom's class a student shared his long-lasting love of Roald Dahl books and passed around peach ring gummies in honor of James and the Giant Peach. In Mr. Parelius' class, Asa Abedin, featured in the center of this class photo, was truly generous with his interactive presentation of his literary autobiography and gifted each student with their own wizard wands!

We look forward to watching the Class of 2027 grow and be transformed by the encounters they have with great literary works in their time at MC. In the meantime, we encourage you to find a freshman and ask them to tell you about their favorite literary autobiography presentation from this week.

Come Out and Cheer On The Wildcats!

Students love it when faculty and staff members attend their games. Please bring your Marin Catholic ID card to our on campus games and attend them for free. We hope to see you there! Check out upcoming games and competitions on the MC Athletics Calendar.
