Golden Eagle Fest attracts thousands to explore the campus

More than 3,500 people visited the campus on Saturday, Nov. 18, for Golden Eagle Fest. During the open house, prospective students and their families explored the University, met with faculty, advisors, and current students, and learned all the reasons why they should apply to Cal State LA for fall 2024. Freshman and transfer students who completed their applications early learned their admission decision at the event. 

Faculty and Staff Holiday Celebration set for Dec. 19

The Cal State LA Faculty and Staff Holiday Celebration will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. There will be lunch, music, a pet photo contest, and prize drawings. To ensure proper accommodations, all attendees must RSVP online by 5 p.m. on Dec. 14. 

University Reports fall edition is featured online

The fall edition of University Reports is available online. Browse through the publication that showcases professional activities and published works, as well as awards received by our faculty and staff. Submit your information to the Office of Communications and Public Affairs for inclusion in the next issue.

Luckman presents Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker

Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre's production of The Nutcracker will be presented from Friday, Dec. 8, through Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Luckman Theatre. This full-length ballet, complete with battling mice and soldiers, an enchanting snowy forest, and Tchaikovsky's beloved score, is an audience favorite. Staff Working Group hosts Seasons Greetings Gathering

The Staff Working Group for Belonging, Community, and Diversity will host a Season’s Greetings Gathering on Friday, Dec. 8, in the University Club. All staff members are invited to stop by any time from 3 to 5 p.m. to snack and socialize with colleagues to close out the year. Light refreshments and mocktails will be served. Advanced registration is recommended, but not required.

Join the community in helping to plant trees on campus

The Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good is inviting faculty, staff, and students to volunteer and help plant trees around the campus on Saturday, Dec. 9, and Dec. 16. The service project is part of the University’s partnership with North East Trees, a local organization dedicated to environment resilience and urban greening. The goal is to mitigate climate change by planting 1,500 trees throughout Cal State LA. To sign up to volunteer, visit the center’s Eagle Connect community engagement portal.

Pat Brown Institute co-hosts L.A. Governance Reform Project’s public briefing

Join the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs at Cal State LA for a virtual public briefing presented by the Los Angeles Governance Reform Project. The webinar will take place at noon on Thursday, Dec. 14. The presentation will include a discussion of surveys, focus groups, and stakeholder meetings regarding the project’s recommendations on independent redistricting, city council size, and ethics reform. Please register in advance to attend the PBI co-hosted event.

Calling for events and programs for heritage month calendar

The Cross Cultural Centers, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Staff Working Group for Belonging, Community, and Diversity are requesting colleges, departments, and offices to submit any events and programs that pertain to upcoming heritage month celebrations. This is part of a larger effort to recognize and celebrate heritage months year-round to support identity development and enhance a sense of belonging, community, and connections for students, staff, and faculty. Please complete the community calendar forms linked below by the listed dates to allow sufficient time to finalize the heritage month calendar.

Submission deadlines:

Parking closure during holiday break 

The south side of Parking Lot 5 will be closed for upgrades from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3. The north side of Parking Lot 5 and Structure E will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Dec. 26 to Dec. 28 for the LAUSD All District High School Honor Marching Band. They will use the structure and part of the lot to practice for the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Donate to Cal State LA Toy Donation Drive

Cal State LA is hosting a Toy Donation Drive in collaboration with Para Los Niños, a nonprofit organization, that serves needy children and families in Los Angeles. Donations of new and unused toys will be collected now until Dec. 15. Drop off donations at the Center for Student Involvement, located on the third floor of the University-Student Union, or the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good, located on the lower level of the Career Center. Counseling services available for campus community

Employees may find counseling assistance through the Employee Assistance Program, LifeMatters, by calling 1-800-367-7474 or visiting the LifeMatters website. Cal State LA’s company password is GOEAGLES. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides services to students throughout the summer. Counselors will be available to address issues such as anxiety management, emotional wellness, mindfulness, and more. For details, call 323-343-3314 or visit the CAPS website.

As you plan virtual or in-person events for the winter session or spring semester, please submit calendar entries to the Office of Communications and Public Affairs at [email protected] as soon as possible to allow time for inputting onto the online University calendar.
