Getting to know Fair Oaks EcoHousing
|
Check out our new video!
A preview of Fair Oaks EcoHousing, filmed at Nevada City Cohousing.
Our new 10 minute video is on YouTube!
This summer, Michael deMartino of Golden Road Productions filmed several members of our community-Marty Maskall and John and Jan Szostek and our consultant, Katie McCamant-at Nevada City Cohousing. Fair Oaks EcoHousing was designed by the same architect, Chuck Durrett, who designed Nevada City, so the video will give you an idea of what our homes will look like when they are complete. Welcome Lorri Reynard,
the newest member of Fair Oaks EcoHousing!
As Lorri was searching for a great place to move to in California from New York, she came across cohousing and became very interested. As a college student at UC Berkeley, Lorri lived in a Co-op and much prefers to know her neighbors.
She also became intrigued by the Sacramento area due to the proximity to the mountains, the lower cost of housing compared to the Bay Area, and the weather. She is looking forward to becoming part of the Fair Oaks EcoHousing community!
Lorri started her professional life as a Registered Dietitian in Cleveland, Ohio. She took a few years off and became a stay-at-home Mom with her two sons, who are now in their 20’s. (One son now lives in Hawaii and the other one is moving to Fair Oaks with Lorri, at least for a short time.) After some time, Lorri returned to graduate school to become a clinical psychologist. She has worked in group practices, nursing homes and, most recently, in private practice.
Lorri enjoys outdoor activities, including walking, hiking, cycling and kayaking. She also swims and practices yoga regularly. She is excited to be able to be active outside all year round.

Where We Are Now: Foundations in Process!
|
|
“Life is precious; why court pneumonia, consumption and death in this climate of the East Coast when, at a moderate cost, you can secure an ideal home and a secure income in Fair Oaks.” From a 1895 advertisement by the Howard & Wilson Publishing Company, of Chicago, promoting their new citrus colony in Fair Oaks, CA. Five acres could be had for $500!
Today, a new kind of colony is being built in Fair Oaks, a fulfillment of the original plan for a cooperative community. Construction progresses well on site. The six residential buildings will have had their trenches dug by the time you read this. Building 1 awaits re-scheduling for pouring the foundation footings. Footings for Buildings 2 & 6 have been poured, with 3,4 & 5 soon to follow. The schedule calls for the slabs on Buildings 2,6,3,4 & 5 to be poured, sequentially, by mid September. After the slabs cure, in about ten days, framing can begin.
Soon, you can secure an “Ideal home.”
