BUILD A FAIR & EQUITABLE RENTAL HOUSING BOARD
Since May 2023, the Rental Housing Board has only had one real landlord among its eleven members. This means decisions are made without any insight into the challenges we face. With no counter to the bias from tenant activists, landlords will face even more discrimination as the Rent Board will soon begin hearing petitions for rent reduction.
Now we can do something about it. Two At-Large positions are reaching the end of their first terms in office, and both seats are currently held by tenant activists. The City Council can appoint housing providers to these positions and we have had productive conversations with Council members about restoring some fairness and balance to the Board.
To stand for this paid position, contact the City Clerk's office to register at
(626) 744-4124 or CityClerk@CityOfPasadena.net. You will attend a briefing at the City Clerk's office, and then you'll need to ask 25 of your Pasadena neighbors to sign your nomination petition.
The time commitment is a meeting twice a month, plus additional time to review the documents for each meeting. You'll be paid $45/hour by the City while providing a great service to the multi-family housing industry!
The deadline for completing your application and petition is April 21st, so please apply as soon as possible.
