FAL News
August Highlights at the Fairfax Art League
The August FAL calendar was eventful with new Board elections, show changes, updates to our social media, and a new prospect as a show venue.

Board Meeting
The Executive Board met on August 10. Amanda Morrison was approved for the office of Secretary. The remaining board members are Robert Sinclair, President; Julia Fouser, Vice President; and Bob Emond, Treasurer.
FAL has been in discussions with the George Mason University Art Department to begin a collaboration to advance the goals of both organizations. The Board approved a motion to allow Julia Fouser to coordinate a workshop with Bobby Yi of GMU.
The art league has two new curators and need assistant curators to support them in their respective duties. The Board will take this opportunity to prepare materials and training for our curators to ensure consistent offerings to our members and the public.
The Board is planning for an all-hands meeting in the Fall and a new workshop series in October or November.

Treasurer’s Report
The fiscal year for the art league is set by the IRS and begins July 1. For the fiscal year ending July 1, 2026 costs of $8,122 exceeded income by $855 some of which was offset by $255 balance of grant payment from COA for the workshops, which we received too late to report in last year’s income statement. The board cut $1,500 from next year’s budget by eliminating some professional fees and software fees which we deemed were no longer required. The art league is in good shape financially for the coming year. Our rainy day trust fund maintains a healthy balance.

Opportunity for Sales at
Pentagon Department of Defense Concessions Committee
for Calendar Year 2027
FAL members interested in displaying and selling your art (or any other small business) in the Pentagon, the Department of Defense Concessions Committee (DODCC) runs a Short Term (Rover) Program. The DODCC is in the process of planning out the 2027 calendar year.
- Approved applications result in the ability to sell in the Pentagon a minimum of a week (can go much longer, always in week long increments) at a time.
- It is a Monday to Friday period. Drop off/set up the Friday before your week(s), teardown is on your final day. Same concept applies if staying longer.
- You can apply to sell multiple times in the year.
- You get a large room, approximately 20x20 feet, to set up and run your sales. NO COST for the booth, electricity, etc, and plenty of food/drink options in the Pentagon Food Court area.
- Parking and entry pass is given for the time in the Pentagon.
- Must have a business insurance program, Arlington Business License, and ability do a business contract with DODCC.
- Rovers pay commission to the DoDCC that is a sum equal to 20% of net sales, with a minimum concession income fee of $250.
