LEADERSHIP FAIRFIELD 2024-25 Class Forming

The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2024-25 Class of Leadership Fairfield. This prestigious nine-month program, running from September through May, offers participants a unique opportunity to engage deeply with the Fairfield and Fairfield Township communities while developing both personal and professional leadership skills.

Leadership Fairfield meets once a month, providing in-depth knowledge about our community. The program is designed to equip participants with advanced communication and leadership skills, with a focus on both personal and professional growth.

Program Highlights:

  • Duration: September 2024 - May 2025
  • Sessions: Nine sessions and a recognition lunch
  • Project: A group project benefiting the community, developed outside class time. Past projects have supported Animal Friends, Fairfield City Schools, and Shared Harvest Food Bank.

Participants will engage in diverse encounters with various community sectors, including city and township departments, education, tourism, economic development, non-profit agencies, elected officials, and more. These experiences provide invaluable insights and foster meaningful connections among class members. The program’s structure encourages teamwork, allowing participants to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses.

Alumni of Leadership Fairfield emerge as well-rounded community leaders, having studied and experienced the community firsthand. They gain a deep understanding of local strengths and challenges, establishing a network of communication that continues to benefit the community long after the program concludes.

Apply Now: The class is limited to 25 participants. Applications are due by September 1, 2024. To register, visit Leadership Fairfield Registration.

Tips for securing payment devices and reporting their loss

As the weather warms, foot traffic picks up making storefronts more vulnerable to theft—including point-of-sale terminals. Debit and credit card refund fraud has become a popular target for criminals and is often conducted on stolen point-of-sale terminals. Criminals break into the stolen device and use it to complete fraudulent returns on stolen payment cards or on a prepaid card that can be cashed out at an ATM. There are steps you can take to minimize the risk of theft.

The PCI Security Standards Council recommends the following practices:

Terminal security:

  • Design payment locations with the intent to control customer access to payment technology.
  • Mount and secure your terminal and cables with locking stands, cable trays and other securing mechanisms.
  • Physically secure and alarm all remote or self-service terminal payment environments to the greatest extent possible.
  • Maintain a list of all devices and develop a routine to inspect them for tampering or substitution, and ensure all devices and passwords are updated.

Mobile device security:

  • Securely store the device when not in use, such as in a locked cabinet, tethered to the counter or kept under surveillance.
  • Record identifying attributes of the device, such as its serial number, model number, operating system and who is authorized to use it and where.

Since store setup can change seasonally or when new services or products are introduced, we recommend conducting a device risk assessment checkup on a regular basis. If any device is lost or stolen, immediately call our customer service line at 1-866-310-3345, so we can help disable and remotely delete data from the device.
