Jon Noyes conducting FCCC

Happy New Year! Our choristers have been hard at work preparing for our Annual Broadway Concert on Saturday, February 4 at 7:00 PM. This year we will feature selections from Oklahoma, Anything Goes, The Pirates of Penzance and Jersey Boys. As always, our solo and choral performers will amaze you with their incredible talents! In addition, our Auction Committee has put together a wonderful array of items. For the first time we will hold this concert at the Norwalk Concert Hall.

On Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 PM the FCCC Chamber Singers will participate in a Gospel Music Festival at Sacred Heart University with choirs from SHU and the University of Bridgeport. Although this will be our first time participating in this event, you will hear many familiar selections including Bridge Over Troubled Water, This Is the Day, Wanting Memories, Go Where I Send Thee, Total Praise and Praise His Holy Name.

Another new event for us will be the Chamber Singers performance with Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Chapin in a program for Congregation Adath Israel. The congregation's leader, Rabbi Shaul Praver, is an old friend of the FCCC who was our featured guest composer and solo artist many years ago. We even performed on his radio program! The concert takes place on March 25 at 3:00 PM at Newtown High School.

Help FCCC Secure Vital Funding

Are you a parent or friend of FCCC with the ability to research funding opportunities and write grant proposals?  We need people with these skills to help identify coporate and foundation funding opportunities and write grant proposals to apply for them.  Tuition fees and ticket sales support only about 75% of FCCC's operating budget.  The rest must be raised each year from individual,  corporate and foundation contributions and sponsorships.  These outside funds not only help meet the budget needs, but also can help provide much needed resources for Choir enrichment activities as well as scholarship funds for those in need.  Plus, raising outside funding helps us keep the tuition, which is already set much lower than comparable youth choirs, at the most affordable rate that we can.  If you can help, please contact FCCC General Manager Barbara Brauner at

In Your Own Words:

After nine years in the Fairfield County Children's Choir, this choir environment has become very much a home-away-from-home for me. In this day and age everyone is constantly connected to the rest of the world by their phones and the Internet, but when I get to choir that is all gone. Choir is one of the few places in my life where I can work with a group of students just like me, all 110% focused on one common goal. When I am standing in that room listening to all the synchronized voices around me, I am able to find a sort of Zen that I cannot find anywhere else.

I feel corny just thinking it, but choir is sort of magical. It's the transcendental feeling I get when we are in the thick of a demanding piece of music or when we reach a dissonant chord and I can feel the voices around me leaning into the clash. It's those times when my face lights up into a smile when I hear someone sing an incredible solo. I can't help think of how lucky I am to be a part of such a rewarding group.

It took me all my nine years in choir to reach my full understanding of this group, but now that I have figured it out, choir couldn't be a happier place for me.

Kevin Cotellese has been very busy leading his Fairfield Ludlowe High School Choirs. His students recently performed for the Connecticut Arts Administrators Association Advocacy Luncheon at the Inn at Newtown honoring members of each school district across the state that support the arts, and for the Opening Convocation at the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education State Convention at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton. He will be taking the choir to California at the end of March where they'll perform at Disneyland! He will also be the co-chair for the CT All-State Chorus.
