 From the Music Director

Jon Noyes conducting FCCC

As we celebrate the final months of our 20th anniversary season, we can look back on all that we have experienced through these years and look forward to many more years of wonderful music making with our amazing choristers. Thousands of children have participated in our mission "to provide a musical experience that is challenging, rewarding and enjoyable." It is our hope that through our music we have touched not only our choristers, but also many thousands more, from the chorister's families to our audience members.

Just some of the highlights include performing at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, West Point, the Preservation Hall in New Orleans, Canterbury Cathedral in England, and various locations in Vienna, Prague, Salzburg and Ireland. Read More.. .

FCCC Commemorative CD CD

We are undertaking a major recording project this spring. For our 20th Anniversary we will be producing a high quality double CD. One disc will include the FCCC Spring Concert on May 2 - The Best of the FCCC. The second disc will feature the Chamber Singers performing our best repertoire from the entire year. Our members and audience chose the May 2 program through a survey, so the songs are a collection of the most exciting pieces we have ever performed. This two CD set will be a treasure that will be a keepsake which can be given as gifts to friends and family members. To order, please call 203-414-4292, $25 per set.

Colorado/Arizona Tour
The FCCC Chamber Singers will celebrate our 20th Anniversary Season with a tour to Colorado to participate in the Sing a Mile High (SAMH) Choral Festival and to Arizona to perform with the Children's Chorale of Flagstaff, with visits to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. The festival takes place on the campus of Colorado Christian University with the final concert in the beautiful performing arts center at The University of Denver. We will rehearse and perform under the direction of world-famous conductor Rollo Dilworth and Jena Dickey, the director of the Young Voices of Colorado.

At the conclusion of the SAMH festival we have an extension of three days which will involve one concert in Flagstaff, Arizona with the Children's Chorale of Flagstaff and tours to Pikes Peak, the Grand Canyon and Sedona. At the Grand Canyon we will drive 25 miles along the South Rim, making brief stops at scenic viewpoints; stop at the Visitor Center to view the exhibits; hike the Rim Trail (flat and paved) for a few miles of incredible views; and visit the famous El Tovar Hotel and Bright Angel Lodge. From here choristers will hike a short distance into the Grand Canyon on the Bright Angel Trail or visit the Grand Canyon Historic Village or the Bright Angel Lodge.

Chorister & Staff News

Katherine Waugh, a junior at Joel Barlow High School and Kelvin Alvarez, a senior at Fairfield Prep, were named to the All-National Honor Choir sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. They joined 340 musically talented and skilled high school singers from across the United States for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: Performing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 29.

These exceptional students, named the "best of the best" out of approximately 2.5 million students nationwide from local, district and state music festivals, rehearsed a repertoire of challenging music. They performed under the baton of prominent choral conductor Edith Copley, regents' professor and director of choral studies at Northern Arizona University.

Katherine is a classically-trained soprano, and sings in the Select Choir and a cappella groups at Joel Barlow and the Fairfield County Children's Choir. Katherine was a featured performer at Music For Youth's recent Rising Stars Benefit Concert at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport.

Kelvin Alvarez is a senior at Fairfield Prep who will attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall! He is a violinist in the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras and will receive the FCCC Choral Scholar Award this year.

Canadian
The FCCC hosted a wonderful concert by
Les Voix Boreales from Laval, Quebec on April 8. Our choristers and families enjoyed their program, after which the 52 girls from Canada stayed overnight with some of our families who opened their homes to our guests. Traveling in this manner not only saves money but also is a great opportunity for a rewarding cultural experience. The host families were invited to share a few words about their time together.
