Fairfield County Fair

Many county departments hosted booths throughout the week, sharing resources, information, and services with residents. We are grateful to everyone who stopped by to learn more about local programs and initiatives.

A special highlight of the week was the purchase of the Reserve Grand Champion Steer. The Commissioners proudly placed the winning bid using their own personal funds, underscoring their ongoing support for local youth and the agricultural traditions that define our community.

On with Aunie: Elder Abuse & Financial Exploitation

Tune in to the latest episode of On with Aunie as County Administrator Aunie Cordle speaks with Adult Protective Services worker Jessica Estridge, along with Mary Snider, President of Fairfield Federal, and Sarah Franke, Branch Manager. They discuss the most common types of elder abuse, warning signs to watch for, and ways the community can help prevent it.

Nurturing Connections

In alignment with this month’s theme of ‘Nurturing Connections,’ we highlight Foster the Future, a vital initiative supporting local youth, and Elder Abuse Awareness, an important effort to protect and support our older adults in Fairfield County.

Foster the Future: Empowering Youth Through Care

Fairfield County's Foster the Future program provides temporary, loving homes for children in need. When children are removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or parental incapacity, foster parents offer safety, stability, and a nurturing environment. The program emphasizes keeping children within their communities and schools whenever possible and promoting reunification with birth families. Through the Foster the Future Alliance, a collaboration with South Central Job & Family Services, the county is expanding its capacity to license treatment foster homes, ensuring that youth receive the specialized care they require while remaining close to their support networks.

Elder Abuse Awareness: Protecting Our Seniors

Fairfield County continues to focus on the importance of protecting our older adults and raising awareness around elder abuse. Fairfield County 2-1-1 and Job and Family Services (JFS) play pivotal roles in this effort. Fairfield County 2-1-1 connects residents to services that support senior independence, choice, and dignity. Additionally, JFS provides Adult Protective Services, investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults aged 60 and older. Their collaborative approach ensures that seniors receive the protection and support they deserve.

These initiatives exemplify our community's commitment to nurturing connections and supporting our most vulnerable members.

Meet Vince Carpico, Board Member of the Fairfield County Visitors and Convention Bureau Board

Vince Carpico serves on the Fairfield County Visitors and Convention Bureau board, driven by his pride in the community and a desire to support its growth.

“The Visitors and Convention Bureau does a great job promoting all the things you can do here,” says Caprico. “Whether you’re young, part of a seasoned family, or an empty nester, there’s something to do all the time. Tourism dollars support our local economy, which helps fund schools, libraries, police and fire, parks, and all the elements needed for a thriving community and a high quality of life.”

What Vince finds most rewarding about serving on the board is being part of an organization that highlights local businesses and special events that strengthen the community. He wants residents to know that tourism doesn’t have to be out-of-town. Visiting a pumpkin patch, grabbing coffee at a local café, or trying a new restaurant all keep spending dollars in Fairfield County and supports the community he loves.
