Superintendent's Message

May is a special time of year filled with milestones, reflection, and hope for the future—it's graduation season! At Forest Rose School, we were thrilled to celebrate both our preschool and school-age students as they marked important transitions in their educational journeys. Watching our youngest learners don their caps and gowns and our senior student cross the stage with pride was a powerful reminder of the impact of nurturing environments, dedicated educators, and strong family support. These moments reflect not only academic achievement but also personal growth, resilience, greater independence, and community.

Graduation is not limited to our Forest Rose students this season—we’re proud to recognize several graduates within our broader Fairfield DD team. Among them are team members and family members of our team who have recently completed high school or earned a college degree. Whether it’s a first college diploma, a master’s degree, or a high school diploma, we applaud each accomplishment. These achievements demonstrate a shared commitment to lifelong learning and a deep dedication to personal and professional growth.

At Fairfield DD, we believe that education is a lifelong journey. Every graduate, whether a young student taking their first steps into preschool or an adult advancing their career, represents a spirit of growth that paves the way toward success. As we honor these achievements, we also look ahead with excitement for the possibilities that lie before each of our graduates. Congratulations to all who are celebrating this season. We are proud of you!

Enjoy the beginning of summer!

Community Connections

A Home of Their Own

Angela and Rodney have been married for seven years, and they've always dreamed of having their own place. Living in an apartment has been challenging, especially with an off-site landlord and no yard to enjoy. With two cats and two dogs, their space felt cramped.

Since they wanted to move, they had been searching for years, touring houses, browsing the internet, and hoping to find the perfect rental that could eventually become their forever home. But despite all their efforts, they had no luck.

This spring, everything changed. Angela and Rodney applied to Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio to build and buy their own home, and they were selected as a partner family! Since Fairfield County has a long waiting list, they were offered a home in Zanesville, and they decided to relocate to finally own their own house.

As part of the Habitat for Humanity program, homeowners must put in "sweat equity," working to help build their own home or assist with another home. Angela and Rodney are earning their hours by working at the Re-Store in Lancaster, which helps to fund Habitat’s building projects. Rodney does everything from unpacking to mowing, while Angela spends time sweeping, cleaning, and stuffing envelopes. When asked about the work, Rodney said he liked knowing they were putting in the effort to earn their home.

Owning a home comes with new responsibilities, but Angela and Rodney are ready. They've already planned out their chores—Rodney enjoys mowing and being outside, so he's excited to take care of their yard and even host yard sales. Angela can't wait to have more space and have her own washer and dryer instead of going to the laundromat. Both of them are thrilled about the future and the adventures that come with their new home.

American Sign Language Story Time

Fairfield DD recently partnered with the Fairfield County District Library Main Branch, Ohio Deaf and Blind Education Services (Statewide Services and Outreach), and the Deaf Services Center to host a special story time in American Sign Language (ASL).

Families gathered to enjoy the book I Deaf-initely Can, Rhett the Heeler, read by a Deaf storyteller with the support of interpreters. Written by Karlie Waldrip, the story follows a Deaf dog who is adopted by a Deaf girl and learns to communicate using sign language.

During the event, children were introduced to alternative communication methods, including the use of an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. They also learned some signs from the story, played a fun sign language game, and practiced the ASL alphabet. A highlight of the day was meeting a police officer who knows sign language—children even had the chance to check out his police cruiser! It was a fun and educational day for everyone involved!

Fairfield DD Featured Role

Morgan Herman joined Fairfield DD as a preschool instructor in January 2025. As a special education teacher, she works with students who learn and communicate in diverse ways, alongside peer models. She tailors her lessons to each child's unique needs, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Every classroom is staffed with an instructor, assistant, and educational aides, providing individualized support to empower student learning.

Morgan emphasizes the importance of early intervention, believing that strong foundational education sets students up for success. By fostering essential skills from an early age, she helps children gain independence that will benefit them as they grow.

Beyond traditional classroom learning, students at Forest Rose Preschool participate in a variety of enriching activities, including music, gym, and swimming. These sessions follow a staggered schedule, allowing Morgan and her team to work with students individually or in small groups, focusing on skill development. Children with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) also receive specialized therapies to meet their educational goals.

Morgan loves working with preschoolers and appreciates their natural kindness and acceptance of one another. She hopes to instill this inclusive mindset and a strong educational foundation in all her students as they take their next steps into kindergarten.
