Greetings from C. Darby Ulery, founder of "Let's Go! Fairhope" events-related newsletter, calendar and website resource for Fairhope, Alabama.

In the world of e-newsletters, it seems we've finally arrived. Gmail chose to put last week's issue into some readers' "Promotions" tab. It’s a bittersweet reflection that we've gained over 1K readers, but it means if you don't manually choose to have Let's Go! Fairhope delivered to your inbox, if you're like me, you risk possibly missing important information in a timely manner amid an abyss of Old Navy, Trip Advisor, and Paypal updates... The irony of success.

Let's Go! Fairhope will try to help with this, but you have the final say: Don't let your email provider control your brain or your access to local events information. Make sure you have it marked for your inbox.

If you need assistance making sure your newsletter is delivered properly and you don't have a neighbor or a kid to ask (a 10 year old showed me how to use my phone camera from my lock screen once), simply reply to this message or give a call to 251-929-GOGO and we'll troubleshoot.

Highlights this week:

  • Fairhope’s own Nutcracker story
  • The Grinch, those trees and shops!
  • Stay safe from scammers
  • Pucker up for Disco Kiss
  • Not your mama’s Mahjong
  • ALL the things at Anya's event
  • Say YES to running in the house at Running Wild
  • Corks, Casks and Canvas for the creative cause...
  • More!
  • 130+ events uploaded to the electronic calendar this week
  • Printable black-and-white list of events available here

If you are looking for something that doesn't appear on the printable list, feel free to search for it in the electronic calendar on the website and/or submit it to us at letsgofairhope@gmail.com. (Sponsors receive prioritized space and ads.)

Shout out:

Special thanks to Pani for replying with the heartfelt Veterans Day image last week, as well as a link to the beautiful Lord's Day service over in Greece... Hope you enjoy the Cammie's Old Dutch gift certificates!

Reminders:

There is a LOT happening his week, so click "view entire message" at the bottom to make sure you see this newsletter in its entirety.

Events must have a physical Fairhope address to be included in the events list, calendar, and Facebook group, but anyone anywhere can become a sponsor, advertise, and receive recognition. Even the family cat or dog can be featured.

Most of the images below are clickable for more information.

Feel free to reply and share your thoughts.

Let's Go!

Fairhope Barber answers Black-Friday-Fatigue with Man-Friendly Option:

THEY WERE going to be closed. They weren't going to deal with anything that day just like you don't want to deal with anything the day after Thanksgiving other than the couch and maybe the Raiders-Chiefs game... But they received requests and answered the call:

Are you the big-box, door-busting Black-Friday kind of Fairhopian? Or do you prefer locally handmade artisan beard brushes, large selections of high quality, good-smelling men's grooming products curated by one of "Alabama's Top 10 Best Barbers?" How about a stunning array of genuine leather bags that say you live on a dude ranch out west even if it's a cottage off Greeno?

Let's cut the rhetorical questions. If you are steering clear of automatic sliding doors and overnight camp-outs on Black Friday, find your people and head to Father and Son's Barber shop for their BEARDiful Day event on November 29.

Father and Son's Barber shop WILL now BE OPEN on Black Friday for non-hustle, non-bustle, good old-fashioned demo of slow shave gear, bougie beard stuff, buff bags that The Duke himself would love, with free (really good) coffee to boot.

And if you are risking your life for a wifi operated blender or a new smart saw that doubles as a door stop, stop by, cool off, buff up and find your forever barbering home after. They won't judge.

From Chuck and Dana Chavis, Owners:

We are a BEARD LOVING barbershop. Long beards, short beards, custom beards, free hand sculpting, straight Razor line ups and more. You name it we can do it. Let us make you BEARDiful. We even have custom coffee mugs and hats that will help you say it, if you prefer a subtle approach.

Want to learn how to shape a beard? Need answers to itchiness of beards? How to maintain the scraggies? What products to use in beards? For starters:

We have oils, creams, balms, conditioners and more. Two rules about products: 1. They must work 2. They must smell good (no one wants to stink.) We’ve spent a lot of wasted money on products that we were not happy with. You can avoid that by allowing us to coach you through your beard journey.

Hair: How do pomades, creams, gels, styling powder and more... work? Let us teach you what textures of hair works best with which products.

Come get what works for you, and pick up a genuine leather man bag to stash your gear and carry fashionably.

Fairhope Tree Lighting Ceremony

November 21 @ 5:30 pm

Downtown Fairhope

From the City of Fairhope via Facebook:

Join us as the City of Fairhope joyfully ushers in the holiday season with the beloved Fairhope Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The celebrations will kick off at 5:30 p.m., culminating in the magical moment when the trees light up the night at precisely 6 p.m.!

This cherished tradition promises fun for the whole family. Mrs. Claus will be there, delighting children with candy canes and helping them draft their wish lists for Santa, which she'll personally deliver to the North Pole! Even the Grinch will make a special appearance, adding a dash of mischief to the evening.

The festivities will be filled with lively entertainment, featuring performances by the Fairhope High School Band, the Fairhope High School Choral Ensemble, and the Fairhope Middle School Band.

Fairhope:

This is NOT your average Nutcracker!

Let's Go! Fairhope spoke with Zoe Todd, owner of Creative Outlet Dance Academy and artistic director of Children’s Dance Theatre, who wrote this unique version of the holiday ballet classic to celebrate all things FAIRHOPE!

The backdrops were designed by local artist Leslie Baumhower, the party scene will take place in the street similar to Lighting of the Trees, and there is an new-and-improved family-friendly "battle" scene with dancing and a highly-dangerous stinky cheese (!) weapon. The Mist of Mobile Bay has a role, as well as a sailboat... According to Zoe, a few things have been added and changed from last year, so come out and see for yourself!

Note: Friday's performance doubles as a fundraiser for the non-profit. Tickets are slightly more for that night, but you'll enjoy a soiree with food and a silent auction for a good cause!
