Univest Donates $5,000 to Fairmount Community Development Corporation

Univest Corporation, parent company of Univest Bank and Trust Co. and its insurance, investment and equipment finance subsidiaries, recently donated $5,000 to the Fairmount Community Development Corporation (CDC). Since entering the Fairmount community in 2016, Univest has provided annual support to the Fairmount CDC and helped to advance their mission to foster the improvement of the residential, commercial, and social fabric of the Fairmount neighborhood, while preserving its character and diversity.

The funds will be used to support three of the organization's main events in 2018 - the Fairmount Avenue Arts Crawl set for April 28, Fairmount Food Fight being held on November 15, and Girard Avenue Streets Festival which will take place in October. These free events help build community, celebrate the arts, and cultivate a vibrant local economy.

Making Headlines
Making the new route real, though, has been a three-year process that included in-depth review of employment and commuting data from the U.S. Census, visits to streets and intersections in the area SEPTA hoped to serve, addressing such essentials as restroom access for drivers, and lots and lots of community meetings.

CBS Philly
The exhibit, called "Pop-up Museum: Walls Make Good Neighbors" runs Friday through April 8.
With its  myriad public gardens  and 40,000-plus vacant lots, many of which have been transformed into community farms, Philadelphia is already a hub for community gardening. Philly also has a  shortage of supermarkets in low income neighborhoods , which has made the city an incubator for novel ideas on getting healthy food into people's hands, cheap or  even free . Now, a group of Philadelphia agriculturists are proposing a new type of garden that could address the latter by taking advantage of the former: a food forest on public land, modeled after a similar project in Seattle.
The Philly cheesesteak has been corrupted over the years.
First came the chicken cheesesteak, subbing leaner poultry for beef in a curt nod to "health." Then came the meatless, sometimes seitan-ic cousins, the vegetarian and vegan "cheesesteaks."
At  Gin & Pop, the newish bar in Francisville, chef Josh Noh also trots out the quotation marks for his mushroom "cheesesteak."
Chef Michael Millon of Fairmount's A Mano knows the importance of working your way up. He got his start in the restaurant industry as a dishwasher at the age of 14 and kept pushing forward.
