Ice, Ice, Baby!
 
The golf shops will provide ice for golfers, outside the golf shops, to fill cups at the start of your round and at the turn. The Golf department made this available because of the recent hot weather and Covid cases declining in Arkansas. Please use the
ice for drinking only. Please, do not dip any towels in these ice
coolers.

The HSV Junior Golf kicked off it’s third week with juniors participating on June 16 practice day at Magellan and Granada. Magellan has practice for 5 hole beginners. Granada has the practice season for the 9 & 18 hole juniors. We had a good turnout of both juniors and volunteers.

Thursday, June 17th, play day at Coronado golf course had 107 participants.

We want to thank the volunteers and instructors for Wednesday practice as well as all the volunteers on Thursday.
Orange tees are now available at all courses except Coronado. Feel free to play a round from this shortened distance and tell us what you think....Enjoy!!


AGRONOMY


Round 1 of aerification has been completed with Desoto finishing Last week. Aeration is a plays a huge role in a in the health of a green whether its bentgrass or Bermuda. The reasons we aerify is to reduce compaction, remove built up organic matter, get air down in the root zone and replace the material take out with new sand. So why is a practice that is so beneficial to the greens so disliked by golfers? Unfortunately when this process is performed great amounts of sand are left bind that has not worked into the soil yet, and the Greens are still bumpy and soft which makes for a frustrating day off golf. As superintendents we try to have the greens recovered as fast as possible for a normal playing surface.
