In this Issue:

As I was scrolling through Facebook this morning, I came across the following: “ Church is not something you go to, it’s a family you belong to.” And it got me thinking a lot about church and family. I love the church and all the wonderful things it does. But I also recognize that the church has done much harm in the name of Jesus over the years, many times well intentioned, other times not. Webster’s Dictionary online defines family as “ the basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children.
But the 4 th definition caught my eye “a group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation.” I love the idea of the DCPC of being my
church family. I know family can be complicated at times, but family can also be wonderful too. Family is there with you through joy and through sorrow. I am thankful for my friends, but I am especially thankful for my friends I consider my church family. There are days I don’t know how I would get by without them. One of the most striking examples of family is found in the Book of Ruth 1:16 “But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to abandon you, to turn back from following after you. Wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. 17 Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord do this to me and more so if even death separates me from you.”
This Sunday our church family is growing – finally! We welcome our new pastor Peter Henry and his family – wife Shawn and children Atticus, Haven and Whittier to DCPC. Don’t forget there is one service at 11:00 am this Sunday with a reception to meet Peter after the service. The church staff took bets on the number we thought would be in the sanctuary on Sunday – I picked high. I would like to win the poll. Please be present so I can win!
There is a lot to keep in your prayers this week – the Kenya mission team will be returning on Tuesday night. Please continue to keep them in your prayers. We remember the Vasquez & Titus families on the loss of their mother Anne Calhoun Gentry. We also remember the Miley family on the death of their daughter Claire. We also lift up also those who knew Claire and will miss her.

Loaves and Fishes – Every Sunday!
One great and easy way to make a difference is to share food. Every Sunday the Loaves and Fishes shopping carts are in front of the church. Why not designate a family member each Sunday to bring a canned good or box of pasta to place in the cart on the way into church? Imagine the joy of that family that opens that can of vegetables, fruit, or soup and enjoys the food you have shared.

Family Mission Pilot Project – SEVERAL HAVE RESPONDED – THANKS!
Would you and your family be interested in working with Pastor Robert on a pilot program related to families in mission together? He is looking for several families to volunteer. If you are intrigued, send him an email at and let him know. Then he will be in touch with you to share more!
