New Executive Hired
The Board of Faith Community Nursing/Health Ministries NW is pleased t
o announce the hiring of a new Executive Director. Her name is Heather Simko and she will officially b
egin her
responsibilities on September 1, 2016. There will be a one month overlap with Annette Stixrud, who originally agreed to a six month transition that lasted over 2 years.
A Note from Heather
Summer greetings!
I am thrilled to join this fall and begin to get to know each of you and support you and this ministry in the important work being done to improve the lives and health of the people in our communities around the Northwest. I write to you from Dearborn, MI where I am serving as a chaperone for my daughter's high school church youth group trip. We are here for a cross-cultural, interfaith learning opportunity with the large and diverse Arab Muslim population that calls this area home. We are recipients of their generous hospitality and some of the most delicious food I have ever eaten! I pray each of you are finding time to also be stretched, to grow, and to be refreshed in these beautiful summer months. I look forward to meeting many of you soon.
Blessings and peace,
Heather

Classes for 2016/17
to Include Hybrid Option
Carol Reitz, Lead Faculty for FCN/HMN, and Annette Stixrud worked throughout June and part of July to write an online curriculum in order to offer a hybrid c
lass for Foundations of Faith Community Nursing. The class would meet initially for 1 ½ days, do the online portion the following 8 weeks, and then meet for 1 day for some face-to-face time and a dedication service.
Jeanne Brotherton, former coordinator from Bellingham, WA, gifted FCN/HMN with, in her words . . .
The teaching materials, Power Points, handouts, materials related to the online portion of the hybrid course referenced above, that were developed by me (Jeanne) and Jessica Klassen, RN, ARNP and Faith Community Nurse, have been freely provided to FCN/HMN for educational purposes.
These materials are to be used in the development of an updated "Foundations of Faith Community Nursing" hybrid course, based on the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Curriculum, 2014 revision, developed by the IPNRC (now the Westberg Institute) at the Church Health Center in Memphis TN.
We are grateful to the following without whom this option would not have been possible: for Jeanne and her generosity; for Mark Wahlers, Provost, and Kathy Bales, Director of Instructional Design, Concordia University, Portland, OR, for giving us the opportunity to use their online platform and guiding us through the process; for Carol and her writing and teaching skills and nursing knowledge; for Annette's tireless energy and determination; and for her daughter, Lindsey Stixrud, who knows a lot about online classes and editing.
