Voices We're Listening To

What It's About

"This is about more than naps. Rest is anything that allows you to connect your body with your mind."

This is a rousing call to reclaim rest in everyday life for anyone suffering from the toxic effects of grind culture. The cards offer a simple practice to encourage rest, care, and imagination

The cards come from Tricia Hersey, a.k.a. "the Nap Bishop," and founder of the Nap Ministry.

Why I Recommend It

God commands Sabbath rest, showing the importance of laying down our tools, agendas, and hustling. Rest is not a good suggestion; it's a crucial part of faith, life, and ministry. Our culture wears busyness like a badge of honor, but these cards remind us that busyness is not where our worth or fruit come from.

Books We're Reading

What It's About

Women in the Bible aren't shy or retiring; they're fierce and funny and demanding and relevant to 21st-century people.

Pastor and provocateur Alice Connor introduces these women and invites us to see them not as players in another's story, as victims or tempters, nor as morality archetypes, but as fierce foremothers of the faith.

These womens stories are messy, challenging, and beautiful. When we read their stories, we can see not only their particular, fearsome lives but also our own.

Why I Recommend It

This book helped me not only to see more women's stories centered in Scripture, which is an important part of a well-rounded faith journey, but also to read all of Scripture with different and fresh eyes, listening for the voices on the margins. These are powerful and encouraging stories for people of all genders.
