Urgent Need for Mo-Ranch Driver
Three of our church’s youth are heading to Mo-Ranch the first week in July with Pastor Ashley. However, the group’s second driver had to cancel, so we are seeking one person that is willing to help drive the minivan from SCAPC to Mo-Ranch in Hunt, Texas. If available, you would only need to drive half the time, approximately 4 and 1/2 hours each way.
The driving dates are July 3 (going to Mo Ranch) and July 7 (returning). We will cover all costs. If you would also like to chaperone at Mo-Ranch during the week, we will pay for all lodging and conference fees for you to join the group as a full participant! If interested, please contact Chris Hazlaris as soon as possible.

YES! Adult Literacy Program
Did you know SCAPC shared the vision 50 years ago to launch an adult literacy program with the YMCA? One-half century later, the YES! (YMCA Educational Services) program is going strong, serving more students this year than ever before. Classes are taught in the New Orleans and Jefferson Parish Public Libraries, as well as a distance learning model, an iPhone "Basics for Boomers" program, and ESL classes. Through a partnership with Eden House (another of SCAPC's community ministry partners), survivors of human trafficking are assisted; and through a partnership with Odyssey House, an addiction treatment program has been formed. WWLTV ran a story on YES! last week. Click below to view!

Cuba Ministry College Trip
Last month, college students Jack DeFraites, Charley Lowe, James and Sean Murphy, Madeline Weiser, and Helen Young, led by Michele Murphy and Chris Hazlaris, visited our sister congregations in Cardenas, Cuba. While there, the group was introduced to the young adults of El Fuerte and spent much of the weekend with them. They went snorkeling together, worked on a congregation-wide project, participated in worship and Sunday school and had Olympic type games with them. Many new friendships were formed, and each came away with a better understanding of life and Cuba. Besides working with El Fuerte, the group attended a Bible Study with Juan G Hall Presbyterian Church, helped with food distribution and milking cows with Dora Valentin Church, got to spend some time at the beach in Varadero and explored Havana’s history.
Pictured clockwise from top left are SCAPC members and El Fuerte young adults at the Cardenas monument; Sean Murphy engaged in Bible study with Pastor Alison and a member of Juan G. Hall Presbyterian Church; the group visiting with young adults of the church; and Madeline Weiser distributing food to neighbors.

Vacation Bible School
VBS is in full swing this week at SCAPC! This year's theme, "Camp Firelight: A Summer Camp Adventure with God", focuses on Psalm 56:3, "Whenever I'm afraid, I put my trust in you." Children explore timeless Bible stories that show how Old and New Testament people trusted God in the face of their own fears and went on to do great things in God’s name. Yesterday they explored the story of Jacob’s dream, a ladder up to the sky. Campers pictured here were getting ready to play a game of Jacob’s Ladder Ball with leaders Chris Hazlaris and Chris Currie.
