Honoring Our Neighbor's Faith
5-Week Course
| |
What exactly do “we” profess to believe as ELCA Lutherans? How are we different and the same as other Lutherans, Roman Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Presbyterians, Baptists and Methodists? What beliefs do Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Bahái practitioners hold dear? What do we hold in common and where do we differ?
Jesus calls us to love our neighbor and to do that to our fullest. We need to take time to understand the faith traditions of our neighbors. This 5-week course began this past Wednesday, May 7. Four weeks remain! Join us this Wednesday, May 14, 9:30- 10:30 a.m. in the upstairs classroom. Can’t be there? Join via Zoom, Meeting ID 830 7077 7013, Passcode 793244.

| | Consider Donating Altar Flowers in Honor or Memory | |
Please consider donating altar flowers in honor of a special occasion, in memory of a loved one or to glorify God.
The cost is $30 for one vase or $60 for two vases. For each week, we can have either one donor for both vases, or two donors for one vase each. Make checks payable to Faith Lutheran Church, and indicate "altar flowers" in the memo line.
Check the altar flowers donation board in fellowship hall to see if your desired date is available. If not, please choose an alternate date. The next open date is May 18.
When you purchase altar flowers, your name and dedication will be published in the bulletin on your selected Sunday. To make a dedication:
-
At church, complete an Altar Flowers envelope with your payment, and place it in the offering plate. Indicate your wish to keep or donate the flowers on the donation board in fellowship hall. You also can include a note in the envelope with your donation or call the church office.
- By mail, send payment with a note indicating your desired date and dedication, and if you want to keep the flowers or donate them.
-
By email or phone, contact the church office with your desired date and dedication, and whether you want to keep or donate the flowers. Pay through the altar flowers option on the Faith website.
If you have questions or specific requests about who or what organization should receive flowers that you purchased and choose to donate, contact Joan Hirsch, 941-726-7885.
| | Consider Donating to Pastor's Discretionary Fund | |
Pastor Eric often speaks with people about aid they require. The Pastor's Discretionary Fund allows him to assist financially, when appropriate. The need currently is great so, if you can, please consider a donation to the fund so those in need can receive assistance. To give online, click here, or give via check or cash to Faith designated for Pastor's Discretionary Fund.

Pray for Relationships,
Peace, Mutual Respect
| |
5/9 “In our worldwide task of caring for the hungry and despairing, in the harvests we are sharing, God’s will is done” (WOV 760). Pray for the Spirit to give us a clear understanding of God’s will and ways, that our concern and love for our neighbors in need will not be hindered by bias,
suspicion or judgement.
5/10 Remember in prayer students at universities, colleges and seminaries as they prepare for exams and graduation, that they will find comfort in times of stress, encouragement when they feel uncertain and renewed hope for what lies ahead of them in their vocational journeys.
5/11 Mother’s Day Pray for mothers, stepmothers, foster mothers and expectant mothers. Pray for women who struggle with parenting, who are trying to conceive or who cannot bear children of their own but serve as loving and faithful adults in the lives of children and youth.
5/12 Praise God for the boundless love and forgiveness we have in Jesus Christ and the gift of eternal life that stirs hope, joy and gratitude in us. Pray for the Spirit to inspire and equip us to share this good news far and wide.
5/13 The ELCA walks with more than 80 companion churches around the world to participate in God’s work of service, reconciliation and proclaiming the gospel. Praise God for what we accomplish together and for the faith, hospitality, enthusiasm and wisdom of companion churches that energize our own leaders and congregations.
5/14 Give thanks for ELCA Campus Ministry and the Lutheran Campus Ministry Network (LuMin), which serve students, faculty, staff and others on college and university campuses and which bear witness to God’s abundant grace through worship, study, fellowship, service and pastoral care.
5/15 Pray for the leaders, voting members and others gathering for the assemblies of the Northern Great Lakes and Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast synods, that the Spirit will strengthen, guide and inspire them as they reflect on the mission of the church, choose leaders and encourage one another to proclaim the gospel and serve our neighbors in need.
