This Weekend in Worship

The Presentation of Our Lord is referred to in some corners of the church as Candlemas because of an ancient tradition of blessing all the candles to be used in the church in the coming year at the mass celebrated on that day. It was a way of underscoring the truth of Simeon’s confession that this baby Jesus was “a light for revelation to the Gentiles” and a light for glory to Israel. Let the light of every candle in church be a little epiphany of the love of God for all people in the person of God’s son, Jesus, the light of the world.

The Story of Lutherans in America

February 2 - March 9

As Faith Lutheran celebrates 40 years of mission and ministry, the Lutheran movement in America covers over 400 years. This story is characterized by the tension between honoring the European roots of the church and adapting to the new realities of American life. Join others Sunday morning as participants are transported through four centuries of the planting of the Lutheran church in this new land.  Click here for session dates and topics.

Making Sense of the Cross

February 5 - February 26

Pastor Carlson leads the Wednesday Adult Faith Formation sessions beginning at 6:00 pm. Whatever we say about the cross, we are also saying about God. So, what does the cross mean? What can it tell us about God? How can it help us approach, understand, and know God better? In this course participants will think deeply about what Jesus' cross might mean to us. A participant book is helpful but not essential and is available on Amazon.
