As we journey through the solemn season of Lent, a time marked by reflection, repentance, and renewal, let’s reflect together on the words of Psalm 62:5–7:
"For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
In these verses, David expresses unwavering trust in God amidst life's trials. His encouragement is that He might find rest in God's steadfast presence, recognizing Him as the sole source of hope and salvation. This sentiment resonates deeply during Lent, a period when we are called to introspection and to deepen our reliance on the Lord.
Lent invites us to "wait in silence" before God, setting aside the noise and distractions of daily life to focus on our spiritual journey. By embracing moments of quiet contemplation, we open our hearts to God's transformative work within us.
During Lent, we reflect on our own vulnerabilities and the ways we may have strayed from God's path. Acknowledging God as our fortress encourages us to seek refuge in His mercy, trusting that through Christ's sacrifice, we are offered forgiveness and new life.
The psalmist's declaration, "I shall not be shaken," serves as a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from placing our full trust in God. Lent challenges us to examine the foundations of our faith and to reaffirm our dependence on God's unwavering love.
It is my hope that we might embrace this Lenten season as an opportunity to wait silently before the Lord, to reaffirm our faith in Him as our rock and salvation, and to trust wholeheartedly in His redemptive work through Jesus Christ. May our journey through Lent lead us to a renewed appreciation of the hope and glory that rest securely in our God.
