The Church of the Holy Spirit
Friday, July 20, 2018

Fellow Parishioners,

The next meeting of the Faith@Work group will be Friday, July 27 at 7:30 AM in the Armor Room at The Church of the Holy Spirit.  The speaker will be Rev. Ron Valentine, a good friend, a fellow Young Pup, and a person of deep intellect, experiences AND faith. He is also a person with a pretty good sense of humor and a passion for life and doing the right thing.

I encourage you to attend and believe you will be in for a real treat. To further whet your appetite, here are a couple of obligatory facts about Ron's background, as well as a few interesting tidbits on what Ron will talk about:

  1. Ron told me that his talk will have two significant themes, "He touched me" and "I know a thing or two because I've seen a thing or two." He further explained that although they're not original themes (i.e. one's a song and the other is a tagline from an insurance company!), they were very helpful in framing his talk!
  1. Rev. Ron Valentine and wife Debby live in Lake Forest. Ron has a B.S. [Economics] from Northwestern University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management. After 20+ years in business, he heeded God's call to serve- first as a Chaplain, then into ordained ministry as a Deacon. He has served on a number of non-profit boards, faith-based task forces, and discernment/search committees. Bishop Anderson House, an Episcopal agency, recently launched a new national initiative, naming it the "Deacon Ron Valentine Spiritual Care Training Program," designed to equip thousands [perhaps hundreds of thousands] of lay volunteers in pastoral care in rural and urban areas throughout the U.S.
  1. Ron will go in some depth discussing his faith journey, leaving the business world in his early 50's, changing direction to heed God's call to service, to ministry. He will share the epiphany [ies] he has had, poke fun at some of his early beliefs, and look at some of God's many blessings [and patience] in his life, as well as discuss several of the causes he has championed. And you will see a person  always rejoicing and always grateful.
I am looking forward to see many of you on the 27th, listening to Ron's story of faith, optimism, passion and pursuit of noble goals.

Faithfully,
Mike Zafirovski
