FAITH AT HOME
A Weekly Resource for Personal Devotions,
Small Groups, and Families
In a season when we are all spending more time at home, we offer this resource as an aid to your study and worship. The format is simple and Anglican in nature, with a brief liturgy, readings, prayers, and a reflection connected to the sermon series.
Opening Verses

I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
(Psalm 122:1)

Psalm 122:1-9

I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
Our feet have been standing
    within your gates, O Jerusalem!

Jerusalem—built as a city
    that is bound firmly together,
to which the tribes go up,
    the tribes of the Lord,
as was decreed for[a] Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
There thrones for judgment were set,
the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
“May they be secure who love you!
Peace be within your walls
    and security within your towers!”
For my brothers and companions' sake
I will say, “Peace be within you!”
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will seek your good.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Scripture Reading:
2 Corinthians 5:1-5

1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 5:1-5

Questions for Conversation:

  • Why do you think we default to sub-Christian modes of thought when we think about our eternity?
  • What do we loose, if we loose the biblical hope of our eternity?
  • What do you think the difference is between spirit filled groaning and good old fashioned grumbling? Are you a groaner or grumbler?
Prayers:
Prayers of the People

Please pray for the church, our nation, and for the world.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect for the Week

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Closing

The almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us and keep us, this night (day) and evermore.  Amen.
