My first six months have flown by, and I'm even more excited to be part of EMO. We have an amazing staff who serve wonderful people and WHAT WE DO MATTERS! Here's a glimpse into the care and creative solutions we find to assist our community:
-
133 refugees resettled by Sponsors Organized to Assist Refugees (SOAR); countries of origin include Afghanistan, Burma, Central African Republic, Congo, Iran, Somalia, former Soviet Union and Syria
-
907 consultations provided and 159 applications/petitions filed for low-income immigrants and refugees at SOAR Immigration Legal Services
-
55 families received ongoing domestic violence/sexual assault case management support, housing assistance, safety planning and more at Slavic Oregon Social Services
-
900,000 pounds of food distributed to 21,200 families at Northeast Emergency Food Program
-
10,285 meals provided to 130 HIV Services clients
-
4 of 5 Second Home unaccompanied youth graduated high school this June; the fifth is working toward graduation. One of the biggest indicators for adult homelessness is youth homelessness; these are 5 youth who will overcome the odds!
In addition to our direct service programs, EMO's Public Policy Advocacy team has a strong presence at the Capitol. Over 130 people attended our Interfaith Advocacy Day in Salem on May 10 and met with 58 different legislators—one of the most highly attended advocacy days of any coalition this legislative session!
These are spaces Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon has lived in for decades: direct service, advocacy and bringing people together.

EMO Focus: Daily Bread Express
|
|
Established in 1992, EMO's Daily Bread Express (DBX) provides meal delivery for low-income, home-bound individuals living with HIV. Seven nutritious meals are delivered weekly throughout the six-county Portland metro area. The only requirements to participate in the program are that meal recipients are HIV positive, have incomes below 300 percent of the federal poverty level and have a specified medical need for home delivery of meals. There is no fee for this service; clients need to be referred by a case manager. To learn more about the program, watch the video below with Meghan Lewis, Assistant Program Manager for Home Delivery Services.

Keep Covered
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) has launched a "Keep Covered" public education campaign aimed at helping those most at-risk for losing their Oregon Health Plan coverage during the current re-enrollment ("redetermination") process.
