Working Together to Help Refugees

These are extraordinary and challenging times, but the work of AURA continues throughout the Diocese because of the generous support of FaithWorks. AURA is a Canadian charitable organization assisting in the sponsorship and resettlement of refugees. Our mission is to provide support and expertise to groups involved in refugee sponsorship and resettlement. Refugees face fear and uncertainty every day and we think of the over 79.5 million displaced people around the world whose situations are now shaped by even more uncertainty with the increased threat of the pandemic.
  
Since the middle of March AURA has been working remotely; developing refugee cases, providing our community with timely resources, and supporting 25 refugee sponsoring groups helping 75 refugee newcomers within their first year in Canada. The results of our Spring partnership with Plantables.ca can now be seen flourishing in more than 70 gardens throughout the Diocese. The AURA community commemorated the strength and courage of refugees around the world virtually for World Refugee Day on June 20th. We would like to thank Bishop Andrew for his inspirational words and reminding us all to continue supporting the essential refugee work of welcoming the stranger, as we would welcome Christ. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced all of us to experience how events beyond our control can radically change our everyday lives. Even during these difficult and stressful times, it is amazing to see the work of parishes and sponsorship groups and we thank you all. Refugee sponsorship programs are truly lifesaving solutions for vulnerable refugees during this time of record human displacement.

Matching Challenge Grant
For PARISHES !!!

We are excited to have been offered a new matching challenge grant of $100,000 for new or increased donations. The challenge is only for parishes, not individuals. In other words, for every increased dollar a parish offers to FaithWorks over last years amount, this generous donor will match it with another dollar up to $100,000.
 
If a parish increases it's contribution to FaithWorks this year over 2019 by $1,000, it becomes $2,000. If a parish's increase is $5,000, it becomes $10,000. If a parish's increase is $10,000, it becomes $20,000, for those most vulnerable and struggling every day.

There are two ways for individuals to participate in this challenge and contribute to their parish's total.

1) An individual can make a donation directly to their parish designated for FaithWorks, as in the past.

2) To make online contributions easier the FaithWorks website has been modified to give credit to a parish for an individual's donation. Simply go to FaithWorks.ca and follow the instructions to put the parish's name in the Comments section when making a donation.
