Dear Members of the Illinois Conference,
Many of you have probably already heard that the Rev. Doctor Terrill Murff has accepted the Conference Council's offer to become the Illinois Conference's Interim Conference Minister starting November 1, 2024. We were pleased to officially welcome and name him as our Interim Conference Minister at our 2024 Annual Celebration.
The initial call is for a term of 12 months and can be extended (by mutual consent) for additional terms of six months at a time. Let us be in prayer for Rev. Update Regarding Communications Support Staff
We have begun the Advent season and this past Sunday many churches acknowledged the theme of Hope. Our search for a temporary Support Staff person for Communications led us to Stephanie King-Meyers. I had hoped we found a gem that would offer a great contribution to the Staff and the Illinois Conference. However, that hope died quickly when Stephanie was offered a full-time position with benefits. This position will allow Stephanie to make a more substantive contribution to her household. Stephanie's last day with the Illinois Conference will be Friday, Dec. 6th 2024. Let's offer our prayers of support and encouragement to Stephanie.
Kindly be informed that today's circulation of "Faithful Fridays" will serve as the final circulation of the newsletter for 2024. We will plan for a robust re-circulation in 2025. Season's Blessings to you all!
Blessings
Interim Conference Minister

Reclaiming Our Democracy
Wednesday, December 11, 12 PM
After the election, commentators like Tom Nichols urged people to "stay engaged and make their voices heard at every turn.” But most still wonder how, and even if, they can make a difference between elections. What are the options? (1) Protesting? Vital, but usually not the long game. (2) Signing email form letters, which only 3% of Congressional staff says is highly effective? Just gestures. (3) Taking a 2-year nap until the next election? Sadly, the preferred route for many. Few know about (4) transformational advocacy which helps you change an issue while you also become changed in the process. Join us for this webinar as Daley-Harris shares his stories and wisdom gained from years of leading and coaching advocacy organizations such as Citizen's Climate Lobby, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Catholic Relief Services, and RESULTS. Register now!

Environmental Justice
Pathways Theological Education
Throughout history, people have used the gifts of the land creating structures to make our lives easier. The Bailey Island Bridge is such a creation of granite slabs strong enough to withstand the powerful tidal forces traveling between Orrs and Bailey Islands. How do human creations hurt or help our relationship with all people, biodiversity, and the planet? PATHWAYS responds to this question through its Environmental Justice Program, introducing theology, ethics, scripture, policy, pastoral care, preaching and worship that embraces diverse cultures, creatures, and the Earth, Our Common Home. Sign up now and sample an Environmental Justice course, Biomes and Landforms in Scripture (beginning January 8), connecting our lives and lands with the life and land found in Scripture.
Visit our website and learn more about PATHWAYS Theological Education, Inc. You may also contact the Academic Dean, Rev. Dr. Ruth Shaver or the Registrar, Rev. Melissa Ashmore with your questions.

Empowering Communication Workshops
Rev. Joel Westby and Rev. Leslie Ritter-Jenkins are co-facilitating six Empowering Communication workshops between January 27 and February 28, 2025 via Zoom. To the four workshops they offered in 2021 they have added two new workshops in 2025:
- Embody the Gospel: Facilitate Dialogue, Mediate Conflict, Achieve Reconciliation
- Liberate the Power of Love: Facilitate Restorative Circles that Heal, Strengthen, and Empower Congregations.
Empowering Communication has been a framework that has given us confidence in how we choose to live out our faith in our personal and professional work. Empowering Communication is both a skill set and spiritual consciousness that helps us answer these questions. It is not only consonant with Christianity, but in our experience, is a path that liberates the power of love within ourselves and in our relationships. In the six workshops clergy will learn tools that support congregational vitality and help heal in the world.
Participants in the 2021 workshops may participate in Workshops 1 - 4 for free.
Visit the website for information about each of the workshops and to register.

Back Home Again Holiday Concert
Congregational Church of Algonquin
Bob Wang, who cut his guitar-playing-teeth on Denver’s music, will present a concert featuring many of the JD classics; all of which Denver performed on his Christmas albums and TV “specials.” Original holiday songs like Aspenglow, Christmas For Cowboys, and A Baby Just Like You. The program will also include the iconic Christmas carol sing-a-long. But to not disappoint, Bob will also perform many other non-holiday classics like Take Me Home Country Roads, Annie’s Song, Sunshine On My Shoulders, and Thank God I’m A Country Boy and the chosen theme title, Back Home Again. Bob will be joined by long-time friend and fellow musician, Charis Mitchell (assisting with vocals and percussion), who will be traveling from her new home in Arizona.
The concert will take place in the Congregational Church of Algonquin sanctuary which will be transformed into a country-like family room setting – guaranteed to put us all in that nostalgic holiday mood that we all yearn for this time of year. Light refreshments will be served during a brief intermission. The concert is free to the public, though there will be a free-will offering with the proceeds going to Church World Service/Hurricane Hellene & Milton Relief.
