HART HOUSE THEATRE UPDATE

Issue 13, 2018/2019 Season | October 16, 2018
Fake Nerd Girl Flyer
Fake Nerd Girl

Hart House Theatre is pleased to present in association with Information Technology Services (ITS) at U of T and Wild Talk, a story of cyber-bullying and redemption, Fake Nerd Girl. Ridiculously epic and epically ridiculous, Fake Nerd Girl is the story of one girl’s rise to superhero stardom in the face of unrelenting internet trolls. Cheer as she lays waste to alien invaders, applaud as she outwits the undead dragon, and rejoice as she battles the ultimate internet overlord. Fake Nerd Girl is feminist geekery at its finest: hilarious, awkward and totally awesome.

Following the performance will be a panel discussion around cyber bullying, doxxing, and public shaming featuring Dr. Faye Mishna – Dean of the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, Mike Wiseman – Associate Director of Information Security, Performer/Creator Chloe Payne, Raine Liliefeldt – Director of Membership Services and Development YMCA and moderated by the Chair of the Theatre Standing Committee, Hareem Haider.

One Night Only
When: Tues., Oct. 23, 2018 - doors at 7:30, 8 pm performance
Where: East Common Room, Hart House
Cost: Free - first come, first seated at door - 100 capacity

The Minds Behind The Penelopaid

Each season, Hart House Theatre is honoured to provide a stage for emergent talent - talents that are sure to find a home on professional Canadian stages. In support of the artists you see on stage, are professional theatre creators that give our productions the high quality status for which they're known. Here are a few of the members of the professional production team who are working behind the scenes to craft the world of The Penelopiad:

Michelle Langille, Director
Michelle makes her debut in our space with this project. She is an actor/director/producer/playwright, a founding member of Theatre Inamorata and a proud graduate of George Brown College’s Theatre program. She spent the last year finishing the latest draft of her first full length play Ten Days through Nightwood Theatre’s Write from the Hip program. Currently, Michelle is also producing Her Inside Life, a new work George F. Walker set to open at the end of the month. See more below.

Holly Meyer-Dymny, Set Designer
Holly returns to Hart House Theatre after designing the set for last season's production of Titus Andronicus. She is a theatre designer and visual artist based in Ontario who has designed for opera, theatre, and dance productions with companies such as Opera on the Avalon, Opera Lyra Ottawa, TOES for Dance, and Smile Theatre. Holly was a set design assistant at the Stratford Festival for two seasons.

Cat Haywood, Costume Designer
Working on her debt project with us is Toronto-based designer and a proud graduate of the MFA Theatre design program at the University of Victoria, Cat Haywood. Cat has worked with companies such as Theatre Brouhaha, Lower Ossington Theatre and Classical Theatre Project. Eleven years ago, Cat set off on her first student costume design for The Odyssey (Chaos Theory); how nostalgic it is to return to this same myth, over a decade later, through Penelope’s retelling.

Steph Raposo, Lighting Designer
While new to our stage, Steph is no stranger to Toronto stage having worked with Theatre Inamorata, The RISER Project and Alumnae Theatre. Steph is a lighting and sound designer, as well as an amateur composer. They are the Managing and Technical Director of Little Black Afro Theatre, but you can find them most at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre where they work as the Cabaret Technician.
