A Message From The Superintendent

Happy Thursday Falcon Families,
It has been a couple of exciting weeks as we get ready for the end of one challenging school year and starting the fresh, new 21-22 school year. Here are some great things happening plus some new information. Enjoy the three day break.
In case you missed the information on the new Falcon’s Nest, we had a ribbon cutting ceremony for a beautiful team room remodeled and furnished by the Booster Club with help from the Vern C. Johnson Family Foundation and SO MANY other generous citizens of Fountain Hills. This beautiful room is equipped with comfortable furniture and updated technology to host coaches and students at FHHS with game day preparation, a place to do homework, and a whole host of other things. We are so grateful for the work and dedication that the FHHS Booster Club provided to serve our students. Thanks to everyone who donated and helped make this room come to life.
Today, FHUSD hosted the Fountain Hills Coalition’s luncheon to honor the winners for the essay contest. The FH Coalition brings awareness of youth substance abuse and strives to reduce the effects on children. We are so grateful for their partnership. Even in the face of this very challenging year, we have students and staff rising to the occasion. The student’s essays demonstrated exceptional writing abilities, perseverance, and creativity. This year’s first place winner is Andrew Miller, second place is Taylor Pace, third place winners are Sophie Dehombreux and Faith Shannon. If you see these students, congratulate them on the great work they did. They are exceptional representatives of Fountain Hills High School and the models for living the Falcon Way. Thanks to everyone who participated and sponsored the essay contest.
Summer School and Youth Camps:
The summer school brochure with information and registration form will be out in the next two weeks.  A new addition to the summer school is Youth Camps. We are running Youth Camps throughout the summer to provide our young Falcons the opportunity to build our community pride. This is the first summer in many years that we have offered the camps for children. We hope that you will join us in celebrating the Falcon Way at our Youth Camps this summer.
All of the surveys finally were sent out early yesterday morning from Panorama. We’d like to encourage you to take a few moments to complete the surveys. The surveys are anonymous and take approximately 15 minutes. The Governing Board with a team of stakeholders will be developing a strategic plan for the district with the information you provide.  If you did not receive an email for the survey, please send an email to myself (kglass@fhacademics.org) or Krista Andreae (kandreae@fhacademics.org) and we will get you a link with an access code to complete the survey. And one last thing……we know that COVID-19 has taken over much of the normal school year for all our students, families, and staff. We’d like to ask that you answer the survey questions without COVID-19 factoring into your responses. Thank you so much for taking the time to complete the surveys.
Just a reminder that state assessments are coming up. The principals shared the schedule for the AZ Merit in last week’s Falcon Focus.

A Message From The
FHUSD Governing Board

This year, our school board has modified our meeting schedule to include working sessions. Working sessions are still an official meeting but allow the board to freely speak and discuss items in greater detail. The sessions are open to the public in-person at the FHUSD Learning Center or virtually through Google Meet. We encourage families and community members to attend working sessions to gain an understanding of the priorities of the district and the work completed around those issues. The board and district leadership review data, offer insights, and discuss strategic options to benefit our schools.

To date, our working sessions have focused on a variety of issues including operational updates such as updating the district’s facility rental policies, staffing models, supplemental pay scales for teachers and staff, and setting up various committees to get feedback. Other items included discussion around enrollment, the needs of our facilities, and discussing priority items for our climate surveys to teachers, students, and families.
These sessions, should you choose to attend, really show the many layers that go into our school board decisions. Both working sessions and our business meetings always include a Call to the Public to elicit information from those wanting to speak. If you are unable to attend, the public can access meeting minutes and recordings at the FHUSD website: https://www.fountainhillsschools.org/Board_Meetings
