A Message from the Superintendent
Hello Falcon Families and Community Members,
The school year is off to a fantastic start! Students are setting into their routines, our sports teams are working hard, and teachers are doing what they do best...educating our students and building relationships.
I want to take some time to introduce an important topic that will affect our district this year, the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Override.
Over the next several months, I will be sharing information with our families and community about what the M&O Override is, what it supports, and why it is an important part of our district's budget. My goal is simply to provide clear and factual information so our community can better understand how our schools are funded.
The M&O Override helps support the day-to-day operations of our schools, including staffing, student programs, transportation, and other services. It is different from capital funding, which is used for larger projects such as roofs, HVAC, buses, and major facility improvements.
It is also important to understand that the M&O Override on the November 2026 ballot is a continuation of the existing override, not a request for an additional tax. The override has been part of our district’s funding for many years and is already included in the taxes currently being paid by property owners. The upcoming election is about continuing that existing funding.
As a district, we are committed to being fiscally responsible and good stewards of the resources entrusted to us. We have made difficult budget reductions over the past two years while working to maintain the programs and opportunities that are important to our students.
This will be the first of several Falcon Focus articles about the M&O Override. In the coming months, I will explain the history of the override, how it works, and what it means for FHUSD.
My goal is to make sure our community has the information it needs to understand this important topic. I look forward to having these conversations with you as we work together to plan for the future of our schools.
