Principal's Message December 6, 2019

Happy Friday Falcon Family,

Since the last Falcon Focus, FHMS has been buzzing with activity. The month of November was Native American Heritage Month and Mrs. Shirley provided students with an opportunity to "show" their Native American Heritage during a lunch series the week of Nov. 11th. On Monday Mrs. Shirley encouraged students to wear their hair in traditional styles. Tuesday, students were encouraged to wear Turquoise, beaded jewelry. Wednesday was "Rock Your Mocks," students were encouraged to wear their moccasins. Thursday, students were encouraged to wear traditional clothing. On Friday the students (Harmony M.; Kaylee L.; and Tristen T.) had the opportunity to share in traditional Navajo songs and dance during lunch (with the help of the Masquazee Drum Group and Albert Nelson). I want to thank Mrs. Shirley, all the students that participated, and all the tribal members that shared their culture with us.

November also featured our amazing dance students performing to a packed house for their "final exam." It is truly amazing to see students from 6th - 12th grade performing as a single unit. Thank you Ms. Wilson for all your hard work and dedication to the students of FHUSD!

Next week, Mrs. Laughlin and her music & band students will wow the crowd with their holiday performance. Come out and support the FHMS band Monday, Dec. 9th in the FHMS Gym (6:00 p.m. start time).

Finally, we are one week away from "Finals week" (Dec. 16 - 20). Before finals, we will host the Winter Dance (Thursday, Dec. 12th, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.) for 6th - 8th graders. In addition to finals the week of Dec. 16th, FHMS staff and students will be celebrating "Spirit Week."

Happening On Campus:

A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Shirley for organizing and dedicating an entire week last month to Native American Heritage. Students and staff participated in various activities during the Native American Spirit Week such as, "Roc your Mocs-Monday", "Beaded Jewelry and Turquoise-Tuesday", a fashion show and a big social Pow Wow including song and dance on Friday!
