Principal's Message September 22, 2017

The end of the first quarter of school is approaching: You are invited to FHMS Parent Teacher Conferences!

4th Grade: Conferences will be held the week of October 2 by appointment. Scheduling notices will be sent home. Please contact your child's teacher if you do not receive a notice.

5th Grade: Forms will be sent home requesting conferences only to those students who are in danger of failing one or more subjects. If a teacher does not feel a conference is necessary, parents may still request one by contacting the teacher.

6-8 Grade: We will have conferences during the day on Thursday, October 5 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. On Friday, October 6, teachers will be conferencing from 8:00 a.m. to noon. It will be an "open house" format for both days, and parents are invited to attend as convenient.

As always, teachers are available by phone and email. Call our office at 480.664.5414 with any questions or to leave a message. If you have questions for the Principal or counselor, we will be attending. We look forward to seeing you very soon!

Arizona Proof of Residency

Last week every student was given a small packet of documents with information regarding our Student Handbook and the Arizona proof of residency requirements. Please review these documents and return the yellow cover page (signed by student and parent), together with the proof of residency documentation to your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible. The residency form must be completed for each student and returned with a copy of one of the documents listed on the form.

Extra copies of these documents are available at the front office. Thank you.

Hurricane Harvey Flood Relief Fundraiser

FHMS is collecting funds to send to Lemm Elementary School in Spring, Texas, which was relocated due to severe flooding. Our goal is to raise $2,000. There is a collection box in the front office of the middle school. Please see the attached flyer for more information, or contact Mrs. Erickson with any questions.

Band Concert

Join us Thursday, September 28 as we celebrate music at FHMS. The concert at 6:00 pm that evening will feature students from the 5th grade general music class as well as the 8th grade band. Both groups will be performing a few selections they have been working on since school started. Come enjoy a brief look at what is happening in the music department here at FHMS!

Picture Retakes

Absent on Picture Day, or just want a second chance at a picture-perfect image? Picture Retake Day is Friday, September 29. Order forms were sent home this week, or you can order online at mylifetouch.com, using Picture Day ID: SR467036Q1.

Share Your Best Photos

The FHMS Yearbook class is in need of all sorts of school-related pictures for the yearbook, such as sports, clubs and activities, or just some great candid shots of our students. ReplayIt.com is Jostens' free photosharing app, where you can upload your pictures for the yearbook. It's a password protected app that will upload photos straight to our yearbook website! 7th Grade Social Studies

Mr. Peterson's 7th grade Social Studies classes became young numismatists (coin collectors) last week. Students studied President Thomas Jefferson coupled with the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery. To supplement the reading and writing, students were tasked with collecting a series of coins and paper currency that acknowledge the efforts of President Thomas Jefferson. These coins included four "Corps of Discovery Nickels," Missouri and Louisiana State Quarters, a Sacagawea Dollar, a Jefferson Dollar coin and the two dollar bill. Congratulations to those who found all of the coins and many thanks to the local Fountain Hills banks for their help!
