COVID-19
With the understanding that we are engaging in virtual summer school during a global pandemic, if your student or your family is personally affected by the coronavirus, please reach out to the school so that we can assist you by providing appropriate and immediate relief.
Summer School Dates and Hours
Summer school is in session Mondays through Fridays starting June 15, 2020 and ending July, 23, 2020. First Period meets from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and Second Period meets from 10:10 a.m. until 12:40 p.m.

During the 4th of July holiday break (July 2, 3 and 6), there is no expectation for students to log into their courses. We intend for that time to be a true holiday where students, families and staff enjoy the time off, rest and recharge.

Student Attendance in an Online Course
The classes during our online summer school will function in both a synchronous (real time or happening at the same time) and an asynchronous ( not happening at the same time) manner.

In some courses, each day will feature a synchronous introduction of the learning objectives for the day where it is mandatory for students to log in to join the class and to have their attendance recorded by the teacher. Some courses are designed with less-required synchronous meetings. This is determined by the teacher and the teacher will provide a schedule that defines their meeting dates for both parents and students.

During the scheduled class period, the teacher may implement a blended learning model that allows instructional activities aligned to the learning objectives to be completed in an asynchronous manner. Blended learning is a formal education program in which students learn at least in part through online learning, with some element of student control over time, place, path and/or pace.

In some cases students can choose the time at which they will do their online learning, the path they want to take to learn a concept, or even the location from which they want to complete the online work.
Student Attendance
Students are only allowed to miss three (3) days of summer school. Absences should be called into the Attendance Office at (262) 843-2321, ext. 221. Attendance Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Students missing two (2) days of summer school will be scheduled for a parent conference with the summer school principal to discuss student attendance requirements, academic performance and reasons for the student failing to log into class for attendance.
Weekly Course Details
Course syllabi and course outlines will be available Friday June 12, 2020. Each Friday, summer school teachers will post details about the upcoming week and their plans for learning and assessment in their course. In these documents the teachers define their online availability to assist both parents and students.

Grading and Assessment Feedback
Summer school teachers will update their Infinite Campus gradebooks  each Wednesday night by 11:59 p.m. Students and families will be able to check the weekly updated Infinite Campus gradebooks at 7 a.m. on Thursday mornings for the student's current standing in the course. A final letter grade of A, B, C or F will be awarded and that letter grade will be listed on your student's transcript and calculated into the cumulative grade point average.
Interventions for Struggling Students
Our summer school teachers know that designing interventions for struggling students is a part of the job. Teachers are expected to communicate with parents with a phone call when a student is experiencing difficulty in a course.

The teachers have also defined their availability to assist both parents and students. If you have concerns you would like to share with teachers, please reach out proactively to share those concerns.
Consistent Support for Freshmen

Teachers of new high school freshmen students understand their duty to monitor and ensure students have a successful transition to high school. This summer learning experience is designed to help them, not hurt them. The students must complete their assigned work and reach learning targets.  Know that their teachers will do the work of engagement and intervention if necessary.
IT Essential Information

Student Email & Password Setup (Incoming Freshman Only)
Students can initially log into many Westosha resources, like Gmail or Infinite Campus , using the account credentials that were provided in a paper mailing regarding Infinite Campus. Account credentials were on purple paper. Usernames are usually the student's last name and first letter of their first name. For example, John Smith's username would be 'smithj'. Extra characters of the student's first name are sometimes used to generate a username that does not conflict with another one. The student's account password is initially set to their student ID

To better secure the account, students must change their password using the Self Service Password Reset portal as soon as possible. Account passwords should be changed to something memorable and not shared with others.

Self Service Password Reset portal: https://sspr.westosha.k12.wi.us/

Three security questions must be answered before the user can choose to change their password. These questions can be later used to log into the Self Service Password Reset portal if you forget your password in the future.
