McDowell Mountain Elementary School: An A+ School of Excellence™
Dear FHUSD Families and Friends,
On behalf of all members of the FHUSD community, I want to congratulate McDowell Mountain Elementary School on earning the Arizona Educational Foundation A+ School of Excellence™ Award. McDowell Mountain Elementary School joins 51 other Arizona public schools in receiving this prestigious honor for 2019.
To be eligible for the award, schools must submit a comprehensive and rigorous application. Mrs. Dehombreux and her team comprised of staff members, parents, and members of the community worked for almost two years in the preparation of the application. The application outlined the MMES programs and initiatives in the areas of student focus and support, school culture, active teaching and learning, curriculum, leadership, community and parent involvement, and assessment results.
Mrs. Dehombreux submitted the application for preliminary review in February and they were then approved for an Arizona Educational Foundation site visit. The school underwent a two-day site review from the Arizona Educational Foundation judges in March. The visit included interviews with staff and students and confirmation of the programs described in the application.
The award was announced on April 10th in a rousing school assembly highlighted by an original school cheer. The A+ Award is valid for three and a half years and along with the public recognition, the school receives a banner to display and a check for $500. The A+ banner presentation will be on May 6th with Mrs. Dehombreux providing more details in the coming weeks.
Congratulations again to MMES and their A+ recognition. All of Fountain Hills is proud and honored to “celebrate educational excellence” with them.
Robert Allen, Ed.D.
