The university’s dairy science program is the top program of its kind among U.S. colleges, according to College Raptor, and placed second nationally in the Best Colleges for Animal Science, General category.

In retirement concert, longtime UWRF music professor gets her flowers


In her time with River Falls, Kris Tjornehoj taught multiple conducting classes, music education method classes, music literature, lab ensemble and more. She also served as Music Department Chair while at the university and on the board and council of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association.

Education debt assistance grant, writing competition prize to be established in Boyd Huppert’s name


Boyd Huppert majored in journalism and political science at UW-River Falls and began his television career in 1984 at WSAW-TV in Wausau. Huppert worked at two more TV stations, KETV-TV in Omaha and WITI-TV in Milwaukee, before joining KARE-TV in Minneapolis in 1996.

Renowned UWRF donor remembered


Distinguished UWRF benefactor Bry Wyman recently passed away at age 91. Bry was the son of legendary UWRF history professor, administrator, and author, Walker Wyman, for whom the university’s education building is named. Bry, known for his trademark red blazer in support of UWRF, was the university’s first living $1 million donor and a major contributor to the first comprehensive fundraising campaign in university history. Bry supported many initiatives, including scholarships, speakers forums, guest professor series, academic programs and projects such as SciTech.

Students receive two first-place awards at national agriculture competition


Eleven UWRF students participated in the national meeting of Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES) Nov. 10-12 in San Antonio, Texas. They took part in multiple competitions, placing first among 26 teams in the Quiz Bowl, and received first- and third-place awards in the poster contest. Read more.

Attendees of Future Teacher Day at UW-River Falls on Nov. 1 learned about the teaching profession and educational pathways to becoming an educator. More than 250 high school students, faculty and staff from across the region attended the event. Read more.

Mary Schrieber, a junior at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, has been elected to one of six National FFA Organization officer team positions, a prestigious distinction she called “the honor of a lifetime.”

Students raise $3,600 for local charity that helps families in need


Twenty-one students in the Sales Promotions and Event Planning class spent the semester planning and designing the fourth annual Gift & Thrift event to raise money for the River Falls Sunshine Fund. The nonprofit, led by River High School students, provides financial assistance to people facing various hardships.
